The severe angle of this tree, and the evidence of complete surgery of all of its limbs, was not enough to destroy its ability to survive. Fresh branches have sprouted...I hope it makes it.
Ironically, this tree survives at a "ghost town" , Glen Haven, Michigan.
The church that stands today was completed in 1717. This church was built on the rubble of the 1625 church destroyed in the Pueblo Indian Revolt.
The completed assembly of 'Yin or Yang' makes a friendly smiling origami modular called "Electra 30" or 'Electra".
It has the structure of an 'origami Icosidodecahedron', that is the underlying structure of 'Electra': every five-sided ring is surrounded by three-sided rings and every three-sided ring by five-sided rings.
This 30-piece version of 'Electra' is probably the best known and most folded modular, designed by David Mitchell.
On his website you will find the diagrams for the improved module to hold them together more firmly, especially during the assembly phase.
The original module is now only used for the 24-piece design.

Irving's 908 is seen shoving back across the Penobscot River to pick up the conductor after completing a pickup at Kirby on this bitterly cold morning. After picking up the conductor, and letting the train charge up a bit more it will be a straight shot to McAdam, where they will meet their counterpart, 907.

One more Cherry Blossom photo from Wednesday's sunrise. I took this one during blue hour, on my way to the location where I took the Jefferson Memorial photo posted yesterday. Before walking around this curve, I noticed the sky looked good and it was a nice comp with this tree. In addition (and maybe most importantly) no photographers had their tripods setup in the shot! Score! While I had to work around different people walking through, I was able to capture a few clear frames before moving on.
On more note: I focused on the Jefferson Memorial this year because renovations are now complete! The exterior (especially the roof) looks great again!
It sprout, it grew, it blossomed, it got pollenated, now the seeds are ready for the wind to blow, birds to carry...mission completed.

I'm sorry for the delay but I was very busy at work... Finally I can show you the transformation from tadpole to toad complete. A centimeter of beauty!
In the easter day I freed 3 of these in the field near the pond where I found them and I'm waiting that the last two tadpoles have finished the metamorphosis to free them also!

Last night I went to see A Complete Unknown, the new Bob Dylan Biopic. I'd heard wonderful things about this movie and it did not disappoint. I adored it. The sherpa and I were the only ones in the cinema which meant that I could sing very loudly and applaud all the songs. I felt like part of his audience. The opening scene is one where Bob Dylan goes to meet his hero Woody Guthrie who lay very sick in a New Jersey hospital. He plays him a song called "Song to Woody", written in 1962. The last couplet in the following verse really stood out to me.
Hey, hey Woody Guthrie, I wrote you a song
'Bout a funny ol' world that's a-comin' along
Seems sick and it's hungry, it's tired and it's torn
It looks like it's a-dyin' and it's hardly been born
I leaned across to the Sherpa and remarked how fitting those last two lines feel for our times. In fact it was a thought that surfaced often while listening to Dylan’s songs throughout the movie. Which brings me back to this image in Thailand, and, really, the entire trip.
The simplicity of island life stood in contrast to the complexities and horrors of the outside world. Life there may not be easy, (it looked really hard to me!) but everyone has a role—the women, the men, even the children—and there’s a quiet dignity in that. They don’t have much, living in humble wooden shelters, often pieced together from large bits of driftwood. Yet, there’s a warmth that comes from their sense of community.
Most people on the island know one another, and life is built on connection and mutual support. They help each other, woven together by shared purpose rather than individual ambition. I think that’s one of the most profound things we’ve lost in many parts of the world, the shift from community to self-interest, from collective well-being to personal gain.
Nothing could be more evident than what is happening in the USA.
Anyway, do you self a favour and see the movie and forgive my rambling!

Nijo Castle's legendary Ninomaru Garden and it's koi pond, which is lined with decorative boulders gathered throughout all corners of Japan, were designed in 1626 on the castle grounds for Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa (Edo) shogunate (1603–1867). If you have read James Clavell's novel "Shogun" or watched the Shogun TV series, you're already familiar with Tokugawa Ieyasu because Clavell based the warlord 'Lord Toranaga' on him.)
Lord Tokugawa unified Japan in 1600, following twenty six years of civil war at the end of the 16th century. In 1601 he directed Japan's daimyos (feudal lords) to construct Nijo Castle as his Kyoto residence in a location very close to the Imperial Palace.
The castle grounds, completed in 1603 (amazingly after only two years!), are spectacular, covering 68 acres (27.5 hectares) which include 86,000 sq ft (8,000 sq m) of buildings including two palaces, ponds, rock gardens, and inner- and outer moats. It is now a World Heritage Site.
Upon completion, Tokugawa moved in and hosted a ceremony wherein Japan's Emperor announced to the gathered feudal lords his appointment of Tokugawa as Shogun. Tokugawa's main residence and his new seat of government was in Edo (now called Toyko), so this huge Nijo Castle was akin to his 'country home' used primarily whenever he visited the emperor in the Imperial Capital.
In 1614 the shogun led his samurai army from Nijo Castle on his victorious Siege of Osaka Castle which ended the line of the Toyotomi family, his last political opposition, and established himself as the absolute polical ruler of Japan. His shogunate lasted two hundred sixty four years. In 1857 the 15th Shogun of his line, Tokugawa Yoshinobu, ended shogunate rule and returned political control to the Emperor as Japan opened to the world.
