2 shots to compare my Fuji HS10 with the Fuji HS50 EXR which I bought this spring.

1st shot is from HS10.......2nd from HS50.

I've used the HS50 long enough now to know it's not operator error. The IS and the AF are simply not as good. I have not gotten one shot with the same clarity as the HS 10.

Buying a new camera is a crap shoot. In all my research, I didn't see one word about this

problem.

This is the comparison from the real statue!

It may be the most complicated sculpture in this scale of me!

So here are the two jokers which Lego has made. And here are my thoughts:

New:

I intensely dislike this figure, it looks cheesy and lame...

Head: His cheekbones are freakish and he looks somewhat like Voldemort with makeup. His mouth also resembles that horrible gorilla-like joker from "The Batman" and looks insanely corny as if he was the joker from a Joel Schumacher movie. 1/10

Hair: Punk Vampire? Too short and unoriginal, we got this on Dollar Bill or something??? 4/10

Torso: In my opinion this is decent but the vest is too garish and the little cheerleader jacket he's got is too short. 7/10

Accessories: This is probably the worst Lego could have done. It's just a plain 40p tommy gun and a little flag streamer. 0/10

Old:

Head: This is great and reminds me exactly of the BTAS Joker. He has a nice sinister grin baring individual browned teeth and not one solid block of tooth. And with the crow's feet and wrinkles add to the menacing-ness. 10/10

Hair: I like this as it's exclusive to this figure and also has a really neat joker look to it. How I would've imagined the joker. 10/10

Torso: Nice design here and not too much patterns, it's got that darkish feel to it and is more realistic. 9.5/10. Could've maybe done with a little back printing.

Accessories: Epic- love the joker bombs and card and have no idea why they didn't remake these! Also a great bang gun though I would've liked printing instead of stickers. Oh well 10/10!

Tell me your opinions in the comments below! :-D

I took along a Canon Sure Shot Z135 to not only compare the two cameras, but also to get some color images.

Pentax IQ Zoom 120SW on the left, and Canon Sure Shot Z135 on the right. Both cameras show little distortion, but the Canon has a much better record when it comes to exposures.

Biggest fault of the Pentax is the metering. Even with 400 speed film, I was getting too many under exposures. On a bright sunny day, it did very well, but once it was overcast, the Pentax was very hit-or-miss.

There is also the issue of whether it focuses well at infinity. I would get the flashing indicator by the viewfinder, and then hit the AF button to turn on the Infinity Focus program. You can't tell the difference, as far as I'm concerned. And the feature shuts back off after you take the exposure, so you have to turn it back on with every shot. This could get really annoying if trying to go for a 360 degree panorama, and keeping your horizon line in place, because the button is on the top of the camera, nestled close to two other buttons. This means you have to lower the camera to see if you actually have the Infinity Lock on.

I thought that this camera was a Panoramic mode only, until I just found the P button on the bottom of the camera. Oh well, that happens when you can't find a manual. I realy like the idea of a 28-120mm lens in a small package. It is pocketable, but there is a lens bulge, unlike with the Canon Sure Shot 120 Classic that retracted the lens completely into the camera body. But then it was a bigger camera, so it had the room.

Here I tested Phoenix 200 in a direct comparison with an established film. Both shots are completely un-postprocessed. These are the raw scans as I received them from the lab.

I used two cameras with light meters that I know to be reliable. To the left a Nikon F5 with Harman Phoenix 200, shot at the box value of ISO 200. To the right a Canon A-1 with Kodak Ektar 100. The location and lighting conditions are identical. The framing is not, but that should not matter.

Ektar 100 is not known to be a very forgiving film but it acquitted itself of its task quite well. The colours of the neon lights have been faithfully preserved and the exposure is good. Highlights are not blown out and the dark parts show as much detail as one can expect, with no colour hues. Conversely, in the Phoenix shot the highlights are blown out and at the same time the dark parts have lost most detail and acquired a greenish hue that just wasn't there. From most other Phoenix shots I've seen, including those on my first test roll, I'd assumed that Phoenix should be shot at a lower ISO rating than the box value. The dim background seems to bear that out. But I wonder: The highlights are already blown out - that would get worse with overexposure, as would the unpleasant halation that appears to be unavoidable with Phoenix.

Here is a comparison of the True Type Advanced Muscular Body and the True Type Basic Regular body. As you can see the Advanced Muscular Body is considerably taller the the Regular Body and has a more massive build.

Both bodies have very good articulation but the Advanced Muscular Body has a more aesthetic look because of the rubber casing over the chest and neck.

The legs on the Regular Body are equipped with additional musculature that fit over the thighs. These are removable.

One is Leica T and other Ricoh GR - not really a fair comparison but both are very sharp. These are right out of the camera jpeg's with no edits....just size reduction at 50% and quality at 10. No vivid setting used but one seem more saturated and contrasty. Which camera? Left is GR and right T.

GR's color in this case captured correctly compared to the T.

I finally got a chance to test out my new Hoya circular polarizing filter today at my nearest park.

This comparison is a great example of the result of using the filter on plants/trees etc on a sunny day.

The images are straight out of the camera with no post processing applied except for pasting them into a single file.

The top image is taken with no polarization and the bottom one is with polarization. You can see that the main difference between the two is the glare and reflection coming from the leaves on the non-polarized shot is simply not there on the polarized one. This allows the colour to be brought out in the leaves, increasing the overall saturation.

I would reccommend viewing this shot in Large to check out the clarity of the small white flowers running next to the bush. You almost cannot make them out on the non-polarized image.

Also, the shadows appear reduced in the polarized shot, bringing a bit more detail to those areas which is much more pleasant.

I will be testing my new toy out a little more over the next few days so I hope to have some more images up soon.

I wish I had given this some forethought…

When I went to the airport on May 1, the intent was to obtain photos of the Antonov An-225, the world’s largest cargo jet, departing. Unfortunately, it never occurred to me to set-up a camera on a tripod to obtain images of different aircraft types with an identical focal length. Had I been ahead of the game, I could then simply provide side by side images showing the relative size differences of each type in comparison to the An-225.

Instead, I took each image freehand and from slightly different positions. However, by using trees in the background, I was able to scale the different images (each with a different focal length) to produce a similar result. Behold: a DC-9 vs. a 747 vs. the An-225.

Side by side comparison of the real Porsche 911 GT3 RS and the Lego Technic version (42056).

I was kind of hoping that they would be a match, but they aren't.

Another comparison with the newly arrived dolls :)
