Candid eye contact street photography from Glasgow, Scotland. Having just replaced some batteries into his compact camera, he asked me if I had got the shot I wanted after he caught me pressing the shutter. I just loved the composition and light for this shot, the horizontal and vertical lines in the architecture against the multi-directional wrinkles on his skin and clothing. It's always nice to share a smile with a random subject after they catch you shooting. Enjoy!
Taken during a Meetup with the Cincinnati Camera & Photography Club held at E-Town Landfill & Recycling's yard in the North Bend suburb of Cincinnati, Ohio.
From the web:
"Bomag landfill compactors are multipurpose, heavy-duty machines that provide optimal utilization of capacity allowing the best possible compaction of household, construction and industrial waste materials.
The Bomag refuse compactor surpasses industry standards with its intelligent machine concepts and design making for a durable and efficient package for all landfill sites."
These CN C40-8M's are funky, yet cool to look at. The shortened trucks, squashed yet spacious cab, cowl carbody, and even paint schemes make them a desirable catch.
One such example, CN C40-8M 2405, leads CSX K426 as it holds short of the signals at Nicholas Rd near Dayton, OH.
Yesterday (za 10/10) i decided to go and check out the Clingendael park. It's a wonderful and huge place with a rich history prior to it becoming a public park (1953). In addition it has the largest Japanese garden in the Netherlands, which i unfortunately didn't visit. The reason for not visiting is that it got rather small paths and a lot of people. Even tho Clingendael is a great place, i wouldn't recommend going there for the purpose of capturing insects. It's great for mushrooms in autumn and flowers in spring and summer, but it's quite busy and not really the place for spotting wildlife. Next week i'll explore the Cronesteyn, which somebody recommended to me.

Once upon an Arch so bored...
Well, once again boredom has me doing weird things in PMG. This turned out surprisingly well, I think, as it looked pretty butt ugly for the majority of the time I was working on it. Towards the end some of the details pulled it together. Still a pretty ugly and unwieldy looking thing.
Hard to believe our Bailey Puggins is 13 years old! She still looks like a puppy to me!

I would like to thank all of you that have taken the time to view and comment on my photos, it is very much appreciated.
One of my very early photographic efforts taken with a Hanimex Compact non SLR camera with a 40mm lens finds 86036 poking out the gloom of Birmingham New Street at the head of what appears to be an Euston express (1A61) circa 1975.
Locomotive History
86036 was built at Doncaster Works as E3160 and entered traffic in October 1966. In the early years the class 86 locomotives became notorious for track damage, being fitted with axle-hung traction motors, in place of the bogie-frame-mounted motors of the earlier designs. This additional unsprung mass was causing damage at high speeds. As a result a batch of locomotives was modified with improved suspension and modified wheels and from 1973 onwards, locomotives were progressively renumbered into the 86001-86048 (unmodified design, restricted to 80mph) and 86204-86252 series (improved suspension, 100mph). Within a short time a further batch was modified to the new specification and 86040-86048 were renumbered 86253-86261. By the end of the 1980’s, the need for a standard fleet saw all remaining class 86/0 fitted with improved suspension and converted to class 86/4, 86036 becoming 86436. These locomotives were now inter-operable with Class 86/2, and thus gave greater operational flexibility. In early 1990’s the majority of the Class 86/4 subclass were dedicated to freight traffic. As a result, they had their electric train heating isolated, and their maximum speed reduced to 75mph. These locomotives were reclassified as class 86/6, with 86436 becoming 86636. After thirty three years service it was withdrawn in March 2000 and broken up during January 2005 by CF Booth Rotherham.

Small finchlike bird, compact and short tailed. Generally yellow below and dark blue-black above with stout, short bill. To identify male euphonias, focus on crown and throat: Yellow-crowned has an entirely yellow crown and a dark throat. Females extremely difficult to separate from other euphonias but often seen in pairs or small groups with males. Frequents open forested habitats, edges, and gardens. Can form mixed feeding flocks with other species such as warblers and tanagers.

"This compact machine had no trouble using the same terrain as tanks!" - Dr Ferry Porsche
"So seaworthy was the vehicle that a committee...seriously tried to get Dr. Porsche to equip it with a green light to starboard and a red one to port to conform to international navigation rules."
The most mass-produced amphibious car in history. However, of the original 14,265 to 15,584 built (accounts vary), only 189 are known to still exist today. 13 of which are still running without any major restoration work done.
I really, really like the Schwimmwagen. For a utilitarian, military vehicle, it's actually nice looking. Pretty, even. And just curvy enough to be tricky to do in Lego. A lot of people have built Schwimmwagen MOCs in this scale, and they're usually well done. But I wanted to give it a go anyway. The Kettenkrad was added as an afterthought...which ended up taking longer than the Schwimmwagen in the end. But I'm glad I got to include it.
The Physic Garden of the Worshipful Company of Barbers at Barber-Surgeons’ Hall is sheltered by a medieval bastion that was added to the City of London's Roman wall. It holds a selection of 45 plants from Gerard's Herbal, as Gerard was Master of their Company. The dash of colour is Rosa gallica var. officinalis, the Apothecary's Rose and the Red Rose of Lancaster. They have an excellent guide online the only information on site is the names and provenance of the plants.
