Compact Rush - Juncus conglomeratus. Well Meadow, Bridgnorth, Shropshire Uk

Lecce is a compact city of less than 100,000 inhabitants large enough to have all the amenities but small enough to not attract too much attention, it is often called the “Florence of the South” but Lecce has a much longer history dating back to the Trojan wars so maybe Florence is in reality the “Lecce of the North”.

When the Romans were conquering the south of Italy in the 3rd century BC the Emperor Hadrian was taken with the charms of Licea so spent a lot of time fortifying and linking it to the Appian Way favoring it as well with a 25,000 seat amphitheater, this sealed its status as a favored city south, if you search the back of Lecce remnants of the theatre still can be seen today.

The best thing to do in Lecce is to get lost wandering the maze of back streets and alleyways through streaming sunlight light pocketed with deep shadows but be prepared for a neck ache your head needs to be on swivels to take in all the ornate details of every nook and cranny, picture here is one of the many scenes you will find in your explorations.

I took this on Sept 25, 2016 with my D750 and Nikon 24-85 f3.5-4.5 Lens at 24mm 1/200s f/16 ISO 720 processed in LR, PS +Lumenzia, Topaz , and DXO

For Macro Mondays - Hole

I was struggling to come up with a hole for this week, out of time, then this morning I had to burn a CD so decided to use that.

Happy Macro Monday!

The Bohemian Paradise in Czechia (the Czech Republic) is a place where you become a child again. Or feel like Indiana Jones. You can find rocks of bizarre shape, labyrinths of moss-covered cliffs, lakes and waterfalls in a relatively compact area. And if that's not enough, history lovers can admire old castles and everyone will enjoy a walk in one of the cute towns of the region.

Europe, Portugal, Algarve, Sotavento, Olhão, Bombeiros, Water tankers (slightly cut from all sides).

The Municipal Fire Department (Bombeiros) of Olhão has to deal with a wide variety of fires in its service region, including the barrier islands of Ormona and Culatra/Farol, has a large assortment of fire-fighting equipment and can enlist the help of helicopters. It has a Logistics Support Team and a Pre-Hospital Brigade too. Shown here are two new Scania water tanker trucks ('autotanques').

Shot with the compact Lumix LX7 in Raw and 16:9 format with the tiltable LVF2 electronic viewfinder mounted.

This is number 76 of Olhão & Ilha Culatra and 306 of Sotavento.

A Blue-gray Gnatcatcher. They are very quick and small. Extremely difficult to photograph at this time of the year. This one posed nicely..

The UK's smallest bird of prey, this compact, dashing falcon has a relatively long, square-cut tail and rather broad-based pointed wings, shorter than those of other falcons. Its wingbeat tends to be rapid with occasional glides, wings held close to the body. Its small size enables it to hover and hang in the breeze as it pursues its prey. In winter the UK population increases as most of the Icelandic breeding birds migrate to our warmer climate. Although recovering from a population crash in the late 20th century it is still on the Amber List.

John Flower and I had another day at the Imperial Bird of Prey Academy, Barleylands Farm Billericay Essex.

We spent the day with Professional Wildlife Photographer Robin Lowry who gave us a fantastic time with some excellent photography tips.

Taken during my afternoon promenade using my good old compact. Shot in raw and processed in LR.

There have been quite a few new benches installed at the John F Kennedy arboretum, all this same design; really dark stained wood & just about long enough for 2 people to sit side by side. Perhaps they will be solo benches in the event of another covid type social distancing event? Who knows what the thinking was behind making them so compact & bijou.

Anyway, the colourful forsythia bushes & variety of distant trees caught my eye, so I took a quick iPhone shot HTmT!

Photo 31/100 : My 100x photos this year will all feature benches or chairs. Catching up with uploading my 100x as I was (am) way behind. I promise to intersperse some non-bench photos too.

View from the hill (near the church of Saint George) on the Old Town in Piran :)

Piran is a town in southwestern Slovenia on the Gulf of Piran on the Adriatic Sea. The town is known for its medieval architecture, with narrow streets and compact houses and it's one of Slovenia's major tourist attractions. Architecture of Piran resembles the Italian Venice, to which it belonged in the past, together with Istria. Most of the buildings, as well as the medieval walls separating the city from the rest of the mainland, also come from this period. In the middle of the town is the Tartini Square, with a monument in memory of Giuseppe Tartini. Nearby are located various important buildings, such as Tartini’s house, first mentioned in 1384 and one of the oldest in town, the Municipal Palace. The area of Piran has been inhabited since ancient times. The name of the town most probably originates from the Greek "pyros", meaning fire, due to ancient lighthouses which were supposed to be on the edge of the marina. From 1283 to 1797, the town became part of the Republic of Venice and then was annexed to the Austrian Empire. In 1954 The town was annexed to Yugoslavia.

The forests around the Makarora area are simply spectacular. Beautiful deep green colours with clean streams of fast waters braking the otherwise uninterrupted silence.

It took me a good couple of hours to get this shot right. I had to take it from a suspended bridge which wasn't very stable. But it was definitely worth it.

I like Steveston Harbour because I can always find my favorite reflection.

Have a great Friday and weekend!

This is an archive picture and below is the original story posted.

It is close to the end of year. The new year of rabbit starts on Thursday.

This is time for reflection.

Did I have too much fun with my Fuji compact?

Did I do too many panoramas lately?

Did I do too many infrareds?

Should I take more color shots?

Best wishes to my Flickr friends in the new year and hope everybody is getting more great pictures!

Reflection shot in Steveston taken with my Fuji point & shoot again in the weekend.

I love cities. I love the alleyways, the unexpected squares, the varieties of architecture, the varieties of people! Give me a city over the country every time. The country is just one huge cow pat and you can't get a decent cup of coffee either. Gesellschaft over Gemeinschaft 😎

This ‘compact-reflex’ SLR camera was manufactured from 1977 onwards by the Japanese company Cosina (named Cosina CSM) for Porst in Nuremberg. Its M42 lens is an outstanding, fast lens that still impresses today with its sharpness and optical performance. CdS light metering and an electromechanical focal-plane shutter were, along with other features, state of the art for their time. It also still works perfectly and is in good condition, having always been well looked after. A flash is also included!
