Como is an important city in the history of Lombardy and Italy. During the middle ages it was fighting against Milan. The latter had founded the Lega Lombarda, an alliance against the Holy Roman Empire, while Como preferred to join the Germans. This alliance let Como participate in the destruction of Milan, which, few decades earlier, had attacked the lake city. Some centuries later, Napoleon declared right here the constitution of the Cisalpine Republic.

Lake Como, in Northern Italy’s Lombardy region, as seen by ESA astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti aboard the International Space Station for her Minerva Mission. She posted this image to her social media on 6 October 2022 with the following caption:

Quel ramo del lago di Como… Just North of my birthplace, Milan, beautiful Lake Como is one of the many lakes of glacial origin in Northern Italy. Glacial movement gave it its famous Y-shape. #CiaoItaly #MissionMinerva

Como desato un abrazo

Como borro una caricia

Como se olvidan tus brazos...

The imposing facade of the Como Cathedral was built in the second half of the 15th century. Among other things, it features a rose window and a portal between the two statues of Pliny the Elder and Pliny the Younger, both natives of Como.
