I can't get enough of this beautiful species! There are some people who are trying to separate this form as a separate species from the form with the joined bands (which is the commoner type in my garden), but i think personally they are all the same species, and it's just an excuse to try to create a new species. Maybe other people have different views?
I was checking out some migrating ducks in a pond in Jacksonville.....a few Redheads, one Canvasback, Gadwells, American Wigeons, Pintails, Ringnecks and a few other commoners. They were VERY uncooperative, always moving towards the side of the lake the farthest from me. I decided to forget the ducks and shoot some cell phone shots of the reflected foliage.

A step back in time, until the Middle Ages.
Volterra AD 1398
Volterra AD 1398 is one of the most beautiful and appreciated Italian historical re-enactments. The festival takes place in the pulsating heart of medieval Volterra and in the magnificent Parco di Castello dominated by the austere bulk of the Medici Fortress.
The historic center of the city comes alive with a never-ending past and visitors are transported, as if by magic, back in time. Fierce steeds, daring knights, nobles, ladies, artisans and merchants, commoners and peasants, flag bearers, crossbowmen and soldiers, jugglers, musicians and jesters revive the mysterious medieval town of Volterra by magic.
Volterra, Pisa Italy AD 1398
..how did we end up like this?
With only shattered dreams,
and bitter emptiness.

Hieroglyphics found in the tombs of the Pharaohs suggest that the ancient Egyptians believed the mushroom to be “the plant of immortality.” The mushroom’s distinct flavour so intoxicated these demi-gods, that they decreed mushrooms to be food for royalty alone, and prohibited any commoner from handling the delicacies.

A commoner species in the south of England than at home although they have now arrived and are steadily increasing in numbers in Northumberland.
This female was at Strumpshaw Fen in Norfolk on my recent trip.

Dartmoor is home to numerous ponies that roam freely across the landscape. But they all have individual owners. All ponies that are free-roaming on Dartmoor are owned and protected by Dartmoor Commoners. This one was part of a group that we saw near Cator Common in the centre of Dartmoor. There is a fascinating detailed article about Dartmoor ponies at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dartmoor_pony.

Winter migrant from high-Arctic Canada. Most occur in Ireland between October and April. The brent goose is the smallest goose which occurs regularly in north-west Europe. This population winters almost entirely in Ireland, with small numbers in parts of Britain and France.
During the winter, it feeds mostly on eel-grass, which grows on muddy estuaries, and also on grasslands, usually when coastal supplies have been depleted at estuarine sites.
The Dark bellied Brent is a rare winter visitor to Ireland from Siberia from October to March. Very similar to the much commoner Light-bellied Brent Goose and care is needed to separate the two species. Dark-bellied Brent can identified by the darker and much more extensive grey colouring on the flanks and back. The white flank patch that is very obvious in Light-bellied Brent Goose is reduced to a stripe along the flanks. The majority of Dark-bellied Brent Geese winter in the Netherlands, northern France and the United Kingdom.
The Black Brant is a rare winter visitor to Ireland usually associating with Light-bellied Brent Geese. Black Brant breeds in Arctic Canada, Alaska and east Siberia. Siberian birds are annual winter visitors to south-east England with Dark-bellied Brents, whereas Canadian birds reach Ireland with Pale-bellied Brents. Very similar to Light-bellied Brent Goose and care is needed to distinguish the two species.
Black Brants can be identified by the overall much darker appearance, with very little contrast between the colour of the neck and that of the back and belly. The white flank patch is also much more extensive in comparison to Dark-bellied Brent.
Black Brants also have a much larger white neck patch than either Light-bellied or Dark-bellied Brent forming almost a complete collar.https://www.birdguides.com/articles/identification/brent-geese-photo-id-guide/

Black-chested Buzzard-Eagle is one of the commoner large hawks in South American alpine steppe, mountains, grassy plains, and open woodland. It ranges in the Andes from northern Colombia south to the tip of Tierra del Fuego, and also is found in the pampas of Argentina north into the grassland ecosystems of southeast Brazil. Mammals account for almost 95% of its prey, which it searches for on the wing. The buzzard-eagle is particularly reliant on the introduced European Rabbit; in one study this animal alone accounted for 44% of its prey items and 82% of its biomass intake. The flight profile of adult Black-chested Buzzard-Eagle is highly distinctive: it has long wings that appear very tapered due to the broad wing bases (elongated secondaries) and short, wedge shaped tail. doi.org/10.2173/bow.bcbeag1.01

Good Stewards of Nature
It has finally cooled down and we had are first good night's sleep for quite a while. 25 degrees at night is no joke without air conditioning. We spent the really hot days indoors with the curtains closed but yesterday we went out for a walk along the coast. It was cloudy and their was a strong breeze - absolute bliss. We also checked the Forest out. Most of the small watering spots have dried up and the heathlands are completely dry and yellow. However, the ponies tend to go into the woods in bad weather (extreme heat or extreme cold) and also the larger pools and ponds did have water. Also good commoners (the people who graze their animals on the land) bring out hay to their animals in bad weather. It is terrifying to see the people who lost their houses due to fires here and in Europe.
The rare Scarce Vapourer is superficially similar to the commoner Vapourer moth, but can be distinguished by the orange-brown and white marks near the forewing tip. This fresh male is captive bred.

A long tailed shrike. This bird is quite common in grasslands, but the light and background was so beautiful here that I could not resist a shot.

A Great Northern Diver at Farmoor Reservoir in Oxfordshire. The largest of the UK's divers, it has a bigger, heavier head and bill than its commoner relatives. It is largely a winter visitor to our shores although some non-breeding birds stay off northern coasts in the summer.

We were making our way home through the Forest yesterday when we saw a commoner and his sheep dog herding a flock of sheep. It was blocking the road we were on, so I was able to get a few shots of the action. Two more photos in comments below
