Common they may be, but these are special, as they are 2 out of the 6 flower spikes in our garden.
Other plants didn't do so well this year, I think probably slug damage.
Common grackle (Quiscalus quiscula)
Taken through a double-paned window, so the details are slightly fuzzy and the contrast is a little weird, but this shiny, yellow-eyed guy decided to cool off in our backyard bird bath on a hot summer day.
Fourth state record, first Pierce County record. Found by Ken Brown, originally identified as a King Eider, identification revised and changed to Common Eider with my photos.

Female Common Newt taken today in our garden. We first noticed that we had newts three years ago when they took up residence in an old Belfast sink, which is part of water feature by the house. Every year they reappear, this year there are four, two males and two females.

Hyacinthoides non-scripta
The common eider is one of the largest ducks found in Europe and North America.
It is most famous for the eiderdown, which are feathers plucked from the female that are then used to line nests. The soft, warm lining has long been used as filling for pillows and quilts but it now consider a rare luxury.
This male bird made for a fairly standard shot but I liked the small feather hanging from its bill. In a sense it captured the whole essence of eiderdown and how significant an item it has become in both nature and within human society.

We set off for our next destination soon after breakfast (it was actually 2 days to get there with an overnight stop just for sleep).
Before that I was able to take a few final photos.
These were also common at both this and our final destination, but this was the only photo I managed which shows it reasonably well. My only decent kingfisher photo from the trip. I saw 3 species of them in total.
