Many thanks for your visits, faves and comments. Cheers. ....from a walk through Oxley Creek Common. Oxley Creek Common is home to a remarkable variety of birds. An experienced observer can find as many as 70 species in one hour of observation during the spring about 10% of all Australia's bird species and several times the diversity one could find walking the suburbs. In the past eleven years over 190 species have been recorded on the Common. (Source: University of Queensland)
Double-barred Finch
Scientific Name: Taeniopygia bichenovii
Description: The Double-barred Finch is one of the long-tailed grass-finches and is notable for its 'owl-faced' features, having a white face bordered black. It is grey-brown, with white underparts banded black above and below the chest, giving the species its name. The wings are black, spotted white, the tail is black and the bill and legs are blueish-grey. Juveniles are dulller, with indistinct chest bars. These grass-finches usually feed in flocks and have a bouncing, undulating flight pattern.
Similar species: There are two subspecies of Double-barred Finch: the eastern race has a white rump and the western race has a black rump. Otherwise, distinguished form other finches by its 'owl-face'.
Distribution: The Double-barred Finch is found in the Kimberley region through to west of the Gulf of Carpentaria (the western race annulosa), and then from Cape York down the east coast to south-eastern Victoria (the eastern race, bichenovii).
Habitat: The Double-barred Finch prefers dry grassy woodlands and scrublands, open forests and farmlands. It is never far from water.
Seasonal movements: Nomadic; only an occasional visitor to extreme south-eastern part of range.
Feeding: The Double-barred Finch feeds on the ground on seeds. It will also take insects, especially when breeding. It usually feeds in groups or flocks of up to 40 birds.
Breeding: The Double-barred Finch builds a rounded nest, with a side entrance and short tunnel into a inner chamber lined with fine grass, feathers and plant down. The nest is placed between 1 m to 5 m from the ground in pandanus or thick shrubs, or even in the eaves of a building, often close to an active wasps' nest. Both parents incubate and feed the young.
The nestlings of Double-barred Finches beg with their heads down to one side. This is unique to the grass-finch and waxbill family.
Calls: A brassy, drawn-out 'tzeeaat, tzeeaat'; also a low 'tat tat'
Minimum Size: 10cm
Maximum Size: 12cm
Average size: 11cm
Average weight: 10g
Breeding season: After rain in north and inland.
Clutch Size: 4 to 7 eggs
Incubation: 14 days
Nestling Period: 21 days

Hello my friends! I'm back, but with limited internet connection. I will make sure to catch up with everyone who leaves a comment soon as I am back online full time (probably this week!)
:about the photo:
I got inspired to get back out there and captured this morning shot one day after my previous upload :-)
This is a bit of rocky outcropping (extending from a larger island) which I've climbed on many times for other shots :-)
That small tree you see reflecting in the water saved me one morning from sliding down that slippery slope... so I love that little tree! ;-)
If anyone's still reading... that is a dark fog bank covering the area below the sun!
It continued moving over the area and covered more of the landscape which I had intended to shoot, but it made for an interesting & beautiful photo this day (in my opinion)
:-)
There was a slight fog in the foreground as well, which mixed with a bit of steam rising off the freezing waters and gave the entire scene an eerie coloring that morn.
Speaking of freezing, the temperature was -12°C (minus twelve) between 8 & 9 that morning, and I captured this shot a bit after 9. I stayed out a while and saw some amazing views that day! No regrets :-)
* my Sony camera was damaged in a drop recently, the same day I took my 1st Upright Landscape photo (2 photos back in my photostream).
It is still damaged but I can use it to shoot 4:3 shots... but I can't access 16:9, 1:1 or other ratios. I also can't access the Flash settings or other fine controls. But at least it still zooms! *
Thanks guys for sticking around, it's great to be able to share this one with you today :-)
(Once I have full internet service again, I'll catch up with all who have commented too!)
...Friends, feel free to add yourself to the 'People In Photo' list if you'd like :-)
Hope you find something interesting or enjoyable in this capture ☺
Thanks everyone for your wonderful Comments & Faves, I truly appreciate your support :-)
Have a beautiful day my friends!!!
☺☺☺
Enjoy the view!

Thanks to ParaWeapons for the stock.
After news of the German defeat in Moscow, The Japanese soon realized that the Americans where on thier doorstep. The Emporer of Japan decided to take what little supplies he had left and put them into the development of a thought to be impossible weapon. To his surprize, one month later It was completed. One of the scientists working on it qouted "It is amazing what one can accomplish with Military funding." What had came out of the Emporers Radical decision was the Type- X6 "天皇の光", Which translates to "The Emporers Light". As A horde of American troops stormed the ports of Japan, they soon faced a Weapon that harnessed the power of the Sun.
One Marine coined the name "The Ottawa Gun", for the sound it made when it was fired, sounded like A 30's Ottawa Limb Saw cutting wood.

Comments always appreciated, as long as you keep it clean - I love to hear your feedback! xx
A rare night in at home and trying out a couple of new things. Firstly, after a suggestion from a friend, fishnet tights with my dress.
Secondly, and much more daring, a corset and hold-ups!
Thanks as ever for all the comments and the suggestions on the shoes to match this French Connection dress. With my coat purchase the other day i think i've blown my monthly clothes budget !!
I do own some peep toe nude colour heels though so i will try and get some pics with them this weekend. I bought them ages ago and just haven't found a dress to match them. But i do love these heels i'm wearing, well for about an hour and then they turn into 'killer heels' and my feet then hurt like hell! Suffering for your art i think they call it!
comment please
(3rd of three)
(part of a project I'm working on for my photo class. It's one of three for a "hoax". My idea is that there are cannibals in the mirrors that kidnap people. My teacher has a preference for more non-cutesty photography.)
(Done with this projects :) - suh-weet!)
