Bomber Command Memorial Unveiling Ceremony, Green Park, London, 28 June 2012. The statue of 9 foot high figures represents the 7 man crew of a heavy bomber (Pilot, Flight Engineer, Navigator, Air Bomber, Wireless Operator and 2 air gunners) just after returning from an operation. The statues are bronze and sculptor Philip Jackson has really caught the textrue of the leather flying suits. The roof above the statues has a steel framework, intended to reflect the lattice structure of a Wellington bomber's fuselage, covered by aluminium sheeting recycled from the remains of a Halifax bomber shot down near Brussels in May 1944, with the loss of its 8 man Canadian crew. The wreck of the plane (LW 682 of 426 Squadron) was recovered in 1997, with the remains of 3 of its crew still in their positions. A couple of the people who discovered or recovered the wreck (we didn't quite discover which) were sitting right behind us at the unveiling ceremony).

Knitty suggested putting up command hooks, I decided to do it directly on the door. Good idea, knitty!

Dual locks, nice. Almost every time I used the D3100 these would be accidentally adjusted. I'm right handed, the D3100 dial is on the right. The D7100 dial is on the left. Maybe I won't notice the benefit? Better safe than sorry I guess? User programs should make lens changes faster, for me a different lens is normally a different type of shot or style, landscape, wildlife, macro, each with a different set up. Joy. Simplicity, that is AFTER I've configured it all!

Command-T version 1.2 t-shirt from frostyplace.com.tw, bought in a local sale organized by a Mac community "Macitizen", which aims to raise funds to help people in Sichuan, China after earthquake.

This one has a timeline with Apple Macintoshes on it but there's something wrong - we don't have that Power Macintosh in 1992. It's in different case form factor.

Also, we don't have Mac Pro in 2004. The PowerBook Ti in 2001 looks like a MacBook to me. The QS G4 should be in 2001 instead of 2000. Anyway, this t-shirt shows that I'm a Mac user.. ha ha ha :P

On 23 May, NAVOCEANO hosted its annual command picnic. U.S. Navy photo released/by Ashley Warr.

An intact and well preserved heavy anti-aircraft (HAA) battery to the south west of Lavernock Point, South Wales. The battery was scheduled in 1995 and is "of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of World War II anti-aircraft and coastal defence practices."

It is often incorrectly described as Lavernock Fort, this anti-aircraft battery dates form the Second World War, while the coastal artillery fort, operational from 1870, is now almost completely obscured by the holiday park which now sits on the site. See my other album with images of what remains of the fort.

There were four heavy gun positions, in two pairs, each would have held a 3.7in quick firing (QF) gun. Two of the positions are the standard pattern reinforced concrete, octaganal in shape, with six ready use ammunition lockers. The remaining two positions were of simpler earth bank construction. The front (sea facing) walls of the emplacements have been fitted with steel doors to allow for depressed firing of the guns in an anti-ship role.

References are made to a 40mm Bofors gun being on site but I don't think this had a fixed position and may have either been sited on one of the 3.7in positions or in the mobile role been deployed on its road carriage.

A sunken magazine for bulk ammunition storage is between the two concrete positions, surrounded by a blast wall. Inside there are five bays that would have stockpiled ammunition to resupply the guns above.

The command post is the most interesting of the structures. Semi-sunken, the seven room building would have served as the command and control centre fo the battery as well as a rest area for the crews when not manning the guns.

There are a few bays on the outside of the command post which would have mounted equipment such as a range finder, height finder, and other instrumentation.

All structures have been recently secured and access isn't possible with the exception of the command post where a panel has been removed and it's possible get inside.
