A bulbous-headed brown bird with a comically large bill. Brownish overall, with a rich chestnut cap and paler underparts. Face is liberally splattered with black splotches, the largest patch on the ear where it forms a thick crescent. Pale yellow bill is oddly twisted, making it seem as if the bird is smiling. Prefers brushy habitats with dense cover, including bamboo stands and heavily overgrown field edges, in foothills up to montane areas. Joins mixed flocks. Can be difficult to see in thick cover, but will perch up to sing. Song a repetitive “aw-wi-WI-WI-Wi-WI” whose pitch and cadence may vary. (eBird)

We came across this unusual little bird in the bamboo growing beside a steep road. He led us up and down the road as he sang, before pausing long enough for an excellent photo shoot. Despite name and appearance, he is not a parrot. He is, in fact, a songbird closely related to the North American Wrentit.

I just like the comical scene of this photo. Puffins are fantastic little characters to watch!

WHAT'S NEW PUSSYCAT – TOM JONES
Looking for the waxwings
eating apples in the orchard
a big cat came to greet me
he was huge and very forward
He climbed the fence to meet me
to block my view of birds
he told me they were meant for him
hadn't anybody heard
I must admit he made my day
he made me belly laugh
I laughed until my ribs were aching
he told me I was daft
He climbed the fence like he was human
and not a cat at all
but he landed like a cat on all fours
told me a tale so tall
Once upon an eerie moment
he said he'd seen a ghost
while lurking in the nearby churchyard
scratching at a post
It was the spirit of a lady
who carried a lantern bright
she stooped to pick up falling conkers
her body clothed in white
her hair so long and straggly dangled
over her eyes and face
her finger nails were more like talons
that cut through her finest lace
“I think she was a witch”, he said
“and once I was her familiar,
so I hid behind the biggest headstone
in case she beckoned me to her.”
“Were you afraid?”, I asked the cat.
“No, not at all, not really ...
but I'd rather be a humble cat
chasing the waxwings freely.”
He looked well fed and was content
he loved to pose for his portrait
and I was sorry to say goodbye
but had I stayed I would be late
Happy Fence Friday to you my friends
and a Happy Caturday too
It's nice to be back and feeling happy
and it's lovely to see all of you! : 0)

A magical place, I will happily drive over 2 hours each way to spend a few hours here, especially during the last Golden Hour. Every visit is different. A few days ago, this pond was covered with tens of thousands of Ross's and Snow Geese. The Ross's Geese moved to another part of the refuge today (to provide another, magical show), while the Snows seem to have disappeared. Meanwhile, the Sandhill Cranes made a brief reappearance after being no where to be seen (just heard) on my last visit.
However, you can always count on the Northern Shovelers with their dark green heads and russet backs, along with the ubiquitious and comical American Coots.
Less than 24 hours later and I am already longing for the magic at the end of my next 2-hour drive.
(Haliaeetus pelagicus) It's been a while since I posted a steller's. They do look comical sometimes though!
I had just washed the crocheted doily. Guru was standing right there. Because he loves to peer through the mesh of our laundry bags, I wondered what he would do if I put the heavy, wet doily over his head.
He loved it.
Not the sharpest of images but I thought it was a comical shot! Taken at Low Barns Nature Reserve.
Many thanks to all who take the time to view, comment or fav my images.
This was an in water shot – getting in was an easy jump from the bank, getting out was comical and thankfully no one was around to see.
These are related to the comical Rain Frogs that peep when you disturb them. These are very laid back though.
This is one of my most famous cat images that I took way back in 2004, This is a re-vamp of the one posted over 4 years! The cat on the left is Smokey and Charlie who is looking through the gate wanting to get in, ( both sadly no longer with us) I had to wait for months on and off to get this image it was all worth it in the end!
This is a celebration of there lives!

Snails are fascinating, entertaining, comical...and beautiful creatures. I find them much more engaging than the more popular birds and butterflies, with the added advantage that they don't move very fast! Photographing snails is always a challenge, requiring a great deal of patience and a compliant subject willing to perform for the camera.
No snails were harmed in the making of this photograph.

I look outside my window, and star up to the stars,
I close my eyes, and softly share a thought,
For life is like a sentence, forever behind bars,
For there are darkened lessons to be taught,
The pains I feel are plenty, the screams I hear, so loud,
Is this all that my life has left for me?
See this is why I ponder, and stare right at a cloud,
And wish that there is right where I could be,
I long to travel higher, to reach, to soar, to fly,
Yet all my wishes crash right back to Earth,
But now it’s time for movement, no tears are left to cry,
This moment I have longed for, my rebirth,
So hear my heartfelt message, dream big and reach your goal,
Never falter at the sight hurt,
For we are all but angels, divine is each our soul,
And now it’s time we flew right out the dirt.

Saw this stunningl little Bloody-nosed beetle larvae while walking on the Coastal Path between Polperro and Lansallos, Cornwall, UK. I think it was sleeping/sunning itself, just less than long 1cm at rest, handheld, used an Olloclip macro add on lens @ 14x magnification and a Hisy remote for this shot. Gently tickled and cropped in 'Photos' on Mac.
Earlier in day we had actually seen the adult version moving slowly, plodding along the path, they are quite comical, they walk as if they have hobnail boots on that are far too big for them, lifting their legs high into the air, slowly and deliberately, one by one......just wonderful to watch!!! Only now after identification do I know what they are.....

Sometimes it's just impossible to catch a vole without a little grass getting in the way. In this particular image the female owl appears to have a grass mustache. Pretty comical. Flickr folks please left click for better detail.
The tufts on either side of a Double-crested Cormorant's head are usually not usually seen. This was mating season, and he was seemingly upset by the tuft of fuzz/feather that apparently stuck to the tip of its bill. So the "double crest" was wildly and comically apparent.

HAPPY FENCE FRIDAY : 0))
Happy Fence Friday to one and all
I am guarded by this hilarious court jester
he is wearing rather a Serious hat
because he's as bald as Uncle Fester
What do you mean you've no idea who that is
Surely you've seen the Addams Family
Well, I know he wasn't made up of old drainpipes
and U-bends with flexibility
but his eyebrows are peeling
his eyes are appealing
because he is left in the sun
he stands at the wayside guarding me well
but if a robber stops by he can't run
so quite what good he is proving to be
I really can't tell you for what
but he's company during the day and night
and he squirts me with water when I am hot
one night the alarm was tripped and went off
it was a burglary in progress
he tried to stop the getaway car
but it drove right through the gap between his legs!
People stop by just to take his photo
but today is all about me
so I wish Poppy had focussed more on ME the FENCE
and not on my friend just 'cos he's funny!!

A burrowing owl as it was about to take off from a field. It seems to sway left and right, balance itself then a few hops before it took off so fast. I was glad I manage to get a good clear shot before it sped off.

Tsessebe belong to the same family as the Wildebeest and the Hartebeest, all of which are characterized by their comical appearance as a result of their shoulders being higher than the withers. The Tsessebe is considered the fasted antelope in Southern Africa.
Belted kingfisher (male). He seems to think there is something comical about me, as he flies by laughing that laugh. At

This American White Pelican had a stretch and adopted what struck me as a comical stance showing the long wing and the large orange feet. This individual was still at Wyndham—Carseland Provincial Park in southern Alberta, Canada, in early September, but would soon be moving south for the winter.

This year we had a young White-tailed Prairie Hare (Lepus townsendii) frequent our backyard off the deck. Its antics were quite comical as it raced around a feeding adult as if it did not have a care in the world. I was so busy watching it race in circles and leap into the air that I decided to enjoy the moment rather than try to capture it digitally. The youngster when we first saw it was about one third the size of the adult with it but it has grown over the summer. This observation was in southwest Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Gentoo Penguins (Pygoscelis papua). I watched this group of penguins for a while as they came along the beach, they were very comical with their swaggering gait!

i happened to catch this guy just as he was landing and it looked more like a jump. I thought it was kind of comical so I posted it.
A street performer mimicking passersby...
Mime has been performed on stage, with Marcel Marceau and his character "Bip" being the most famous. Mime is also a popular art form in street theatre and busking. Traditionally, these sorts of performances involve the actor/actress wearing tight black and white clothing with white facial makeup. However, contemporary mimes often perform without whiteface. Similarly, while traditional mimes have been completely silent, contemporary mimes, while refraining from speaking, sometimes employ vocal sounds when they perform. Mime acts are often comical, but some can be very serious.

This small skipper made me laugh as it was half hidden behind the wild scabious. I was intending a head shot, but the wind blew as the shutter clicked so those eyes were staring at me. Heavily cropped.

We get quite a few of these wood pigeon in the garden and they are quite comical to observe - they definitely don't seem to be the brightest of birds! These two kept slipping down the curves on our feeder and were almost doing the splits!!!
Thanks for all the lovely comments and faves on my images which are very much appreciated.
Needs to work on the camouflage - strikingly colourful and an almost comical appearance in the summer sunshine in Monks Wood in Cambridgeshire (UK) (6856)
This little red squirrel kept disappearing from view, virtually tunnelling through the leaves, and then would surface, knee deep, every so often. It was quite comical :-)
