"Created by artist Gordon Young, THE COMEDY CARPET is a celebration of comedy on an extraordinary scale. Referring to the work of more than 1,000 comedians and comedy writers, the carpet gives visual form to jokes, songs and catchphrases dating from the early days of variety to the present. Sited in front of Blackpool Tower, the work of art contains over 160,000 granite letters embedded into concrete, pushing the boundaries of public art and typography to their limits. A remarkable homage to those who have made the nation laugh,

The Comedy Carpet was commissioned by Blackpool Council as part of the multi-million pound regeneration of the sea front including vital sea defence works."

No.7 "Tom Rolt" runs troud the train at Nant Gwernol and pauses for a few moments while the footplate crew take a breather before running back to Tywyn

The Talyllyn Railway (Welsh: Rheilffordd Talyllyn) is a narrow-gauge preserved railway in Wales running for 7.25 miles from Tywyn on the Mid-Wales coast to Nant Gwernol near the village of Abergynolwyn. The line was opened in 1865 to carry slate from the quarries at Bryn Eglwys to Tywyn, and was the first narrow gauge railway in Britain authorised by Act of Parliament to carry passengers using steam haulage. Despite severe under-investment, the line remained open, and in 1951 it became the first railway in the world to be preserved as a heritage railway by volunteers.

Since preservation, the railway has operated as a tourist attraction, expanding its rolling stock through acquisition and an engineering programme to build new locomotives and carriages. In 1976, an extension was opened along the former mineral line from Abergynolwyn to the new station at Nant Gwernol. In 2001, the preservation society celebrated its 50th anniversary, and in 2005 a major rebuilding and extension of Tywyn Wharf station took place, including a much-expanded facility for the Narrow Gauge Railway Museum.

The fictional Skarloey Railway, which formed part of The Railway Series of children's books by The Rev. W. Awdry, was based on the Talyllyn Railway. The preservation of the line inspired the Ealing Comedy film The Titfield Thunderbolt.

My first attempt at comedy I did do much more.

Joseph Frank "Buster" Keaton (October 4, 1895 – February 1, 1966) was an American comic actor, filmmaker, producer and writer. He was best known for his silent films, in which his trademark was physical comedy with a consistently stoic, deadpan expression, earning him the nickname "The Great Stone Face".

The Comedy Store in Hollywood, California.

This event will bring together activists and comedians to discuss the ways in which comedy can push forward agendas such as #metoo and contemporary women’s rights movements, and how this effort can translate into meaningful change in women’s lives. The event will also showcase the work of UN Women and Mythos Labs in countering violent extremist recruitment narratives—and their understandings of gender—through comedy. It features a comedy set by renown comedian and actress Aparna Nancherla.

In early 2018, UN Women partnered with Mythos Labs to produce a series of comedy videos to counter the messaging of terrorist groups in the Asia region. Working with female comedians in South Asia and South-East Asia, these sketches challenge the narratives used by violent extremist groups and counter extremist ideology in the online space. While this work was originally piloted to prevent and counter violent extremism, the implications go far beyond this realm. Comedy can and is being used to promote broader themes of women’s empowerment and gender equality, by not just making us laugh, but by challenging stereotypes with a broad and engaged audience.

This project is part of UN Women’s Empowered Women, Peaceful Communities programme, which is funded by the Government of Japan. This programme works in the Asia Pacific region to challenge the gendered dynamics of violent extremism and reverse its growing trend, through prioritizing women’s rights, empowerment, participation and leadership—in national decision-making and at the community level.

Blackpool's brand new Comedy Carpet sits in the shadow of the world famous Blackpool Tower – and it’s one of the largest pieces of public art ever commissioned in the UK. Artist Gordon Young, in association with leading design agency Why Not Associates, created the Blackpool Comedy Carpet. 850 writers and comedians are represented on the Comedy Carpet - with letters ranging in size from a few centimetres to almost a metre tall so that the laughs can be enjoyed from all sides and from both close up and at height from the Tower.

OH GOD AARON! Once again he is not mine! LOLZ ROFL!

mún dc yếu :))

So there I am, on the couch with my maitresse, trying to create a romantic atmosphere.

Alas, no peace for the wicked! We are disturbed by:

-a thief,

-the wife of the thief (who likes to ring her husband when he is out working),

-my own wife,

-my wife’s lover.

As you will understand: we are talking about a farcical comedy. The past months I found out how hard it is to do comedy. Pace and timing are essential. We worked hard, we sweated, we cursed, we almost despaired but in the end we pulled it off! We entertained a crowd of 500 people for an hour, kept their attention and got a lot of laughs. And afterwards: praise and real enthusiasm. It may not have High Art but we surely kicked ass!!
