Remember music cassette tapes? As a musical playback medium, they were plagued with numerous problems, but as a Coffee Table - WOW.

Jennifer and Michael being adorable. Jen is never allowed to dye her hair.

It's a strange thrill one gets from seeing your furniture on television. Especially when said furniture is a coffee table your parents bought in Coventry in 1971. The one on the Basil Brush show is in better condition than mine as far as I can see. I hope he's careful with the the corners, very sharp they are.

One of the three units assembled. This has had the 16mm edges veneered with strips of jarrah bonded to the MDF with high-strength spray contact adhesive.

The MDF is 16mm thick and the internal surfaces were prepped with sealer and then two coats of charcoal metallic spray paint. Marks and blemishes picked up during manufacture were removed with a third coat of paint after all veneering was completed.

this gentleman was grade-a class, mate

It's hard to fuss when she's so cute.

Sitting/laying on tables has never been OK or allowed here. But Abi is just the most adorable thing. I should have saved the $5 on the poinsettia and just let her sit on the coffee table for Christmas.

Don't worry, this wont become a "What I bought today" stream. But today...

I finally opened the XBox and got some games for it. The postman delivered two new coffeetable photobooks: David LaChapelle's Heaven to Hell (came in a case, pictured top-left) and Joan Sinclair's Pink Box: Inside Japan's Sex Clubs.

Also, I've eaten a lot of chocolade candies: Jim's and Brunberg Kisses.

... maybe get this one?? or the one on the next page? (click next, sucka!)

Tambour coffee table built by Todd Plummer (toddcreatedwood.com). 40” long x 21” wide x 17” tall. Photo by the artist.

Curly Maple top is veneered in sequence over quarter-sawn poplar staves. Tops are edged with solid maple, holding continuous grain around the circumference of table, as well as book matched to top and bottom pieces. The tambour side slides 360 degrees around the table. The "half French" through drawer is accessible from either side by moving the tambour to the corresponding location. Table holds two compartments at either end behind the tambour. Awarded - Woodcraft Magazines, Excellence in Design award.

In his words, "The material I use is Certified sustainable lumber and when and where it is applicable I use localy harvested and milled woods. The tambour table along with all other furniture pieces I make, don't use plywood. I create my own substrates from solid wood and cross laminated veneers. The glue I use is non toxic and doesn't off-gas. There are no staples, nails, laquers, or eurethanes. I make my own schellac and waxes. Even the canvas on the back of the tambour is unbleached and organic."

Addy Award Prism on Black Coffee Table.

This is a photo project I did with my friend Sam Leshnick at the Chibi Chan preschool in San Francisco. He did the excellent design on these 7x7 image wrap books with blurb.

Really fun project! Thanks Sam!!

We've been looking for a perfect coffee table for some time now. Talia found this absolute bargain on the weekend for a whole $5. It was finished in that horrible 70s light varnish so we decided to strip it back and stain it dark.

It's such a classic, interesting piece and really suits the lounge room perfectly. Feels really good to find something that is so suited to what we want and to know we are doing our bit to turn something old into something new again.

You can make a Vintage Style Pallet Coffee Table with only two pallets and a long weekend! Plus, it'll only cost you around 30 dollars!

Vintage Style Pallet Coffee Table - Supplies Needed:

2 EURO pallets

4 casters

safety tools (gloves and goggles at a minimum but include respiratory protection with sanding)

Jigsaw or circular saw

Sander

Rotary tool with sanding disc/wheel

Screwdriver

stain & varnish

Vintage Style Pallet Coffee Table - Let's Get Started!

SAW both pallets in half

WEAR safety gear - at least gloves and goggles during the work (!)

TRIAL-FIT the pallets - join the two pallets by the bottoms - the parts must be fit perfectly

SAND the surface completely (use 80 grit paper for sanding)

Reach the edges, and for the difficult-to-reach surfaces, USE rotary tool

STAIN the surface with your favorite colored stain then let it dry completely - it takes approximately one day

SAND the surface again, but this time use 120-grit paper to create that vintage look

BRUSH the dust off

VARNISH everything

Vintage Style Pallet Coffee Table - Putting It All Together!

DRILL 2 holes on each slat (on the bottom of the first pallet)

MARK the places of next holes with the help of nails

USE 6 carriage bolts for the joint

INSTALL 4 casters to the bottom
