Second coffee shop date in three days. This time alone and right in front of the register. Still no one bothers me. Painting in my lap for the first time. Not so comfortable as I would have liked, but trying to learn to block out discomfort for the sake of future awkward drawing situations. Continuing to play with compostion on the fly. Hour and a half.
I was sitting in the restaurant next to that one, and had a seat near a fence on third floor. I don't think they can deliver high quality coffee or delicious food. But I do appreciate they put a lot of lights on their trees, that keep me busy for a while. Althrough I don't like this picture, I still decide to post it here.

Photo by Paul, all rights reserved. Paul was on vacation in South Carolina and kept sending me SMS telling me that every third business was Pedro's something. I asked him to find me a "Pedro's tack and bait shop" but he had no luck. As a consolation prize he sent me this photo.

... part of the coffee shop at The Nottingham Contemporary (art gallery).
I'm currently using the Fujifilm B&W film simulation Acros + Y with minor tweaks to it, to get these lovely tones. The superb art gallery lighting helps.
My B&W recipe is here ...

A pregnant veiled woman working on something, a group of young girls giggling in the corner, a man and woman holding hands across the table off camera to the left.... this is not the same crowd as in the traditional cafes! I'll post a picture of an 'ahwa' for contrast, just as soon as my husband comes and I feel comfortable going to one for old times sake! The ahwas are mainly outdoors on sidewalks or alleys, they serve shisha (water pipes for tobacco) and turkish coffee, and are primarily male spaces -- women sitting alone would be harassed or at least thought ill of. The new Western-style cafes, which have all appeared since I was last here in 2000, are just what you'd expect from Starbucks and the like (lattes, mochas, etc.), but with free internet and table service.
