Photograph taken at an altitude of One hundred and eighteen metres at 12.02pm on Monday 5th June 2023 off Mayfair Drive in the grounds of Mt Tolmie Park in Victoria on Vancouver Island in British Columbia.
In the distance we see Mt Baker in Washington State, USA, an active glaciated andesitic stratovolcano in the Cascade Volcanic Arc and the North Cascades. Standing 3,286 metres tall, she was first ascended in 1868, her last eruption recorded in 1880.
The four Salishan language speaking First Nation bands nearest to Mount Baker know her by different names. Known to the Halkomelem as Kwelxá:lxw, Kwelshán (wounded by a shot) to the Lummi,Teqwúbe7 (snow-capped peak) to Lushootseed speakers along the Skagit River, and to the Nooksack language, the ice- and snow-covered top is Kweq’ Smánit (white mountain) while the high meadows around the peak are Kwelshán (shooting place)”.
There are also unsubstanciated references to Mt Baker as Komo Kulshan (pronounced kō-ō’mah’ kool-shän’), the name for the Middle Fork which originates from the glaciers such as Deming and Thunder on the western slopes, though Koma or Komo Kulshan is not a native name for the mountain in any of the twenty three collective Salishan languages.
The name Mount Baker first appeared in print in Captain Vancouver’s 1798 narrative of his voyage around Vancouver Island. Legend has it that his third-lieutenant, Joseph Baker, was the first to spot the mountain while they sailed into Dungeness Bay on April 30th, 1792.

Black-I's LandShark robot with its new arm at NDIA's 2010 Ground Robotics Capabilities Conference and Exhibition. It is using Energid Technologies' hardware codec for video compression.

(I used a different codec and this uploaded at the wrong proportion - darnit... oh well).
I don't have CBC figured out. The "Find out why CBC.ca uses Windows Media Player" and "(optimized for Windows Media Player 9)" suggests that they use only that codec. But they don't. The Sonos system comes with a bunch of CBC streams via MP3, and the network goes out of its way to promote Ogg Vorbis, the only truly free and open codec out there. (MP3, while relatively open and widely used, is encumbered by patents.)
LifeSize Passport in one hand; LifeSize remote in the other hand. It really is that small of a codec!

The charts from upper left going clockwise are YC Waveform (signal intensity; chroma not shown), Vectorscope (color hue and saturation), RGB Parade, and YCbCr Parade.
The following slides show the same video encoded with VC-1 and H.264 codecs using Microsoft Expression Encoder 4 Pro. The output files were viewed in four different media players (see following slides P2-P12).

Photograph taken at 12:43pm on Wednesday 10th April 2024 at an altitude of Forty seven metres in the Grounds of Warnham Nature Reserve in Horsham, West Sussex.
Here we see a juvenile Eurasian Magpie(Pica pica), of the Corvidae family. There is still blue colouration to the right eye and beak which vanish as it matures. Eurasian black and white Magpies are considered amongst the most intelligent animals in the world, capable in tests of recognising human faces, themselves in a mirror or hub cap, and of solving a variety of tests.

Photograph taken at an altitude of Seven metres at 21:09pm on Friday 19th May 2023 around sunset (Sunset was at 20.59pm), off Qwuc Chus Lane and Patricia Bay Highway 17 on Tsawout First Nation land, East Saanich Indian Reserve No. 2 (a 241 hectares site), on Vancouver Island in British Columbia in Canada.
The Tsawout people are a member of the Sencot'en Alliance and one of five bands of the Saanich Nation, along with Tsartlip, Tseycum, Malahat and Pauquachin. In the 1850s they were signatories to the Douglas Treaties and they speak the SENĆOŦEN language. Nick Claxton was chief until April 2021 when Harvey Underwood was elected as his replacement. In January 2023 there qwer around 1600 inhabitants of which one third were Tsawout First Nations people.

Talked about codec selection today at the meeting. The politics at these meetings drive me insane.
After the meeting I got to take another long walk around the town and found some cool stuff—a neat dance poster, a rad laundromat, and several condom dispensers (?).
And then I ate delicious gnocchi with beef and had an enormous macaron for dessert. Wonderful.
AAC generally achieves better sound quality than MP3 at similar bitrates, while Opus benefits from much lower latency than other formats like MP3 or OGG, but competes favourably for quality at similar bitrates.

The Indian peafowl or peacock (Pavo cristatus) is also known as the common peafowl, and blue peafowl, and is a peafowl species native to the Indian subcontinent. It has been introduced to many other countries.
Male peafowl are referred to as peacocks, and female peafowl are referred to as peahens, although both sexes are often referred to colloquially as a "peacock". A Peacocks length from bill to tail can measure100 to 115 cm (39 to 45 in) and to the end of a fully grown train as much as 195 to 225 cm (77 to 89 in) and weigh 4–6 kg (8.8–13.2 lb). The females, or peahens, are smaller at around 95 cm (37 in) in length and weigh 2.75–4 kg (6.1–8.8 lb).

This video was shot the night of June 26/27 2011, looking west over the hudson river. Photos were taken at 30 second intervals using a nikon d3000, controlled by usb and gphoto2. The lens was a nikon 1.4g af-s, on programed mode. I think the longest exposure reached during the night was 10 seconds, so next time I'm going to see if I can't get it to stop down a little and use a longer exposure.
Shot in raw mode and developed to jpg using dcraw, color balance determined from the exif information of the image.
Encoded using the x264 codec and mencoder. You can see that as morning arrives it really gets the white balance completely wrong.

A small sample of my photos on Flickr. Because of the 150meg and 90 sec restriction i have edited the music down to fit the limit. Normal video rendering i use AVI High quality codec this file is just over 1GB. However this example has been converted to mpeg2, the file size is 52mb.
Approx 10 mins to put this video together. Considering the compressed file size it turned out okay. Certainly a lot better in HD format and on a big screen.
Depending on your Broadband speed you may want to let the video load up first.
