Modified from a Dorie Greenspan recipe, this dessert is nothing more than wafer-thin slices of Asian pears layered with coconut oil and a spiced sugar mixture, lightly pressed and slowly baked to meltingly tender perfection. A chilled square of this alongside caramel or vanilla ice cream is the perfect, frugal-fancy end to any day of the week!

Melon Poppy Seed Handmade Soap

This soap was supposed to be pink and green… Umm it's not. It's fragranced with Watermelon Fragrance Oil which smells more melon to me than watermelon. I guess I just don't have the sniffer to distinguish. This soap is going on SALE because I'm just not happy with the 'looks' of it :-) Why must my envisioned soap dreams be dashed?!

You will receive one bar of appoximately 4+ ounces.

It's good to let your soap air out between uses for a longer lasting bar. Store your handmade soaps in a cool dry place letting them breathe. I cut mine in quarters to make them last longer :-) and this way I can use a different soap everyday - yay me!

Hand crafted soaps are so good for your skin. No added chemicals and all the natural glycerin is retained. I'll never go back to buying store bought chemically infiltrated soaps.

Allergies? Please read the listed ingredients. Thank you.

I wasn't thrilled with this recipe from EatingWell - they promised ginger "crinkles", but mine flattened into sparkly thins that seeped their coconut oil on my parchment paper. That said, when drained on coffee filters, they tasted delicious!

The full range displayed at Plantation House, Samoa. Coconut oil soap, body oil, lotion, perfume and guest gift packs.

Coconut oil, the oil my grandmothers cooked with. It is solid at room temperature (<78F).

Playing around with another cold process soap. I've been wanting to try adding pumpkin to the soap and I've been wanting to attempt a swirl....We shall see how both of these turn out tomorrow. This soap came to gel stage very quickly, I'm guessing this particular fragrance oil helped to speed up the whole process.

My recipe was for four pounds of oils, so I figured a four pound loaf mold would work fine..so that's all I had lined. After pouring and swirling that one, I had to do a very quick emergency lining on my one pound mold and get the last bits of soap poured into that before it started to set up. Lesson learned, I know better than to use a new untested recipe without having some form of back-up mold on stand-by.

Tropical traditions coconut oil. Best coconut oil I have ever had, very rich and coconutty.

Enlighten your sweet tooth with this delicious alternative to honey, maple syrup and agave. Coconut nectar is low-glycemic (Glycemic Index 35), so it won’t cause the energy crash that these other sweeteners do. Our organic Coconut Nectar is traditionally hand-harvested from the sweet sap of sugar blossoms that grow in the canopy of Indonesian coconut groves. This mild and mineral-rich sweetener is perfect in your morning cup of tea or as a substitute for ordinary sugar in recipes. It's more than health food - it's Essential Living Food.

Compared to soil-depleting, water-intensive crops like sugar cane, coconut sugar is one of the most ecologically sustainable sweeteners in the world. Your purchase benefits the Earth and also helps raise rural communities in Indonesia out of poverty. Essential Living Foods’ trade partnership with local farmers supports education and cooperative manage- ment to create a legacy of empowerment.

Second batch of cold process soap for me. Totally addicted! I decided to try a goat's milk soap...starting with frozen goat's milk so as not to burn it with the lye. I don't have a lot of photos of the process...I'm finding it hard to take photos while wearing safety goggles, marigolds and a mask over my mouth and nose...perhaps once I have the hang of the soap making down a bit more I'll be able to get more photos as I go..but I digress...

I am fearing that this soap won't turn out, but I was afraid of that with the last batch and that one worked out just fine..so we shall see! I'll take more photos as it develops and such!
