Koninginnenpage - Old World Swallowtail (Papilio machaon), different pose.
Very rare, first local sighting ever. I never thought I'd see the day... and the swallowtail. (-;
NB: In Dutch clover (klaver) in card games is also the name of the suit of clubs;
hence the Queen of Clubs - Klavervrouw - Clover Queen.
(The name clubs makes no real sense, the symbol clearly is a three-leaf clover, but is in fact literal a translation of the former Spanish name: basto(s) - cane/stick.)
Koninginnenpage means Queen's Page, with 'pages' being the colloquial Dutch name for the Papilionidae-family, including swallowtails and hairstreaks.
Polarizing filter and high winds got me a some blur, but I really liked the cloud formation with the clover.
i’ve been watching the clover bloom in my backyard. by many standards, this is a weed—something unwanted. but i think clover is beautiful. the more i look, the more i see. and this makes me think about people in general. how we, as a culture, box in beauty, intelligence, and worthiness. but if we look more closely, there’s beauty and wisdom in everyone. people can surprise us in interesting ways. when i’m not in a rush, i see differently: instead of boxed-in people, i see imperfect humans doing the best they can in a difficult world. when i’m not in a rush, i see many moments of grace.
The thing about low growing clover is that a breeze will usually have minimal effect, that is compared to something like long stemmed plants such as Alf Alfa or uncut wild grasses. Here I tried moving the camera as I shot a burst, without changing focus and later brought the exposures into Zerene Stacker, a focus stacking software.. It is not perfect, but still I like the overall finished image. I find the background almost painterly..
I do not remember my aperture, but it was likely around f4 or f5.6 as I wanted to keep the background quite soft. I do not remember how many images were used in the stack.

▶ It's a 'macro' close-up. The wildflower appears much larger in the image than it did in 'real' life.

this morning, i crouched (kindly) in someone else’s yard, photographing a patch of illuminated clover. a neighbor walked by and said, “i must tell you: my daughter has been watching you for years. now she squats on the ground to take pictures and she’s getting really good stuff. by watching you, she’s learned so much.”
we never know the impact we have on others. it’s a good reminder to be kind, live wholeheartedly, and take photographs from curious positions.
Went down to another riverside reserve today - it was sooo pretty.
The clovers are like grass here. Lovely.
At dusk this affternoon Tom asked me what day was it tomorrow. I said it was Thursday but he clearly wanted me to say more. Then he told me it was St Patrick's day. Yes, 17th I thought to myself. Not having any shamrock in the garden I thought clover would have to do and hurriedly took these 2 shots. Then I thought - But it is 17th Feb today, not March 17th. We are all so desperate for spring that we are getting ahead of ourselves!
Thank you all so much for sharing your quality photos which is a great way to see and keep in touch with the world from home. Also for your kind comments and favours which are much valued.

The Pannonian Plain is a large plain in Central Europe that remained when the Pliocene Pannonian Sea dried out. It is a geomorphological subsystem of the Alps-Himalaya system.
The river Danube divides the plain roughly in half.
The plain is divided among Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Ukraine.
The plain is roughly bounded by the Carpathian mountains, the Alps, the Dinaric Alps and the Balkan mountains.
Although rain is not plentiful, it usually falls when necessary and the plain is a major agricultural area; it is sometimes said that these fields of rich loamy loess soil could feed the whole of Europe. For its early settlers, the plain offered few sources of metals or stone. Thus when archaeologists come upon objects of obsidian or chert, copper or gold, they have almost unparalleled opportunities to interpret ancient pathways of trade.
The precursor to the present plain was a shallow sea that reached its greatest extent during the Pliocene, when three to four kilometres of sediments were deposited.
The plain was named after the Pannonians, a northern Illyrian tribe. Various different peoples inhabited the plain during its history. In the first century BC, the eastern parts of the plain belonged to the Dacian state, and in the first century AD its western parts were subsumed into the Roman Empire. The Roman province named Pannonia was established in the area, and the city of Sirmium, today Sremska Mitrovica, Serbia, became one of the four capital cities of the Roman Empire in the 3rd century.
