I don't know what it depends on, but the last few days we have had incredibly beautiful sunsets.

That evening I could almost see Antoine de Saint-Exupéry on his plane looking for the Little Prince.

Thanks for looking as always your comments etc are appreciated.

Sibenik Croatia january 2017

The sun setting behind some outbuildings on a farm near my home. Some 60+ years ago a friend lived on this farm and I would go out to visit. If I was there at "chore time" we would wander about around these buildings.

I hardly ever try HDR because of the bad taste I got from the very unnatural images that were popular a few years ago. But I tried it here to keep the pretty sky and also keep some detail in the buildings and the foreground. This is a three shot HDR image (±2 EV) run through a very basic HDR program (Picturenaut 3.2)

Thinking of all the Italians hit by bad storms and floods in the past week.

The fortress of Malcesine dates back to the last centuries of the first millenium B.C.

The castle was destroyed by the Franks in 590 A.D. and then rebuilt. In 806 the building hosted king Pepin, who came to Malcesine to visit the Saints Benigno and Caro and, after the Hungarians invasions, it was included in the episcopal feud of Verona.

It was under Alberto della Scala's and his family's control from 1277 to 1387.

During this period the Scaliger renovated the fortress which started to be referred to as "Scaliger castle".

The castle changed hands several times: it was owned twice by the Republic of Venice, then by the French, followed by the Austrians which accomplished significant strengthening works inside the building until 1866.

From that year on, it became a Venetian's ownership.

On 22 August 1902 the castle was declared a national monument.

A long string of overcast days ended in wonderful fashion tonight. Photographed over the backwaters of the Mississippi River in La Crosse County, Wisconsin.

Along the hedgerow at Misk Hill as the sun rises.

These distant tiny birds (about one kilometre away) looked like they were on a hunt for the mythical pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. When I took the shot, I did not even see them in the viewfinder (and they are still not visible in a thumbnail of the image) as I was mainly looking for a telephoto shot of the rainbow colours! I am not totally sure what they are - maybe welcome swallows?

Florida's sunsets are magnificent. This one is the stuff of Florida colours - soft oranges, pinks, turquoise. August colours if the storms don't come!

Another from Newton by the Sea on Saturday

Just before storm

A copper dawn rising over the sea loch at Gress Beach

This cloud formation rolled across our town in advance of some wild weather.

Last night we had an amazing sunset that filled the sky with glorious colour in all directions!

I always enjoy those minutes just before the sun peeps over the horizon and a new day begins.

Taken from the jetty at Beachport, South Australia.

Another nice December sunset over the backwaters of the Mississippi River in La Crosse County, Wisconsin.

Things get cooler, quiet and peaceful as the sun sets in rural Iowa in the heat of the summer. It looks like this farmer spent the daytime hours baling hay for livestock feed next winter. IF we get some rain he will do this at least two more times as the summer progresses.

Flat calm on Loch Ard, couldn't resist these reflections.

Last Saturday I was in Salt Lake City, but only for a few hours to pick up a trailer coming in from Minnesota. We do this sometimes, pick up and then split off with another driver. A lot of different reasons for this, for example; hour of service, by law we can only drive so many hours each week and each day, so a driver may not have hours to complete a trip for on time delivery. Anyway, I got to our Salt Lake City drop yard a couple of hours before the other driver. The airport in near our drop yard and I kept hearing and the seeing the planes come in, so with the stormy clouds I decided to take a few airplane pictures. This was my favorite.

It's been several years since I last flew. I love traveling, so as I watched the planes come in I thought about all the places I haven't been to. Where would I go? Where would you go?

So here I am at our Salt Lake City drop yard again, so decided this would be a good time to post this. I have a delivery shortly, then back here to drop off my trailer, then HOME for the weekend, YIPPEE!!!

Here's a link to a picture I took on the same day of our Salt Lake City drop yard.
