“The Spirit of the Lord is on me,

because he has anointed me

to proclaim good news to the poor.

He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners

and recovery of sight for the blind,

to set the oppressed free,

to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

/ «Duch Pański spoczywa na Mnie, ponieważ Mnie namaścił i posłał Mnie, abym ubogim niósł dobrą nowinę, więźniom głosił wolność, a niewidomym przejrzenie; abym uciśnionych odsyłał wolnymi, abym obwoływał rok łaski Pana».

Happy Nice Wonderful Clouds Tuesday!

An evening trip along the southern shores of Loch Ewe from Poolewe.

A view along the Solway Firth, at low tide, by Bowness on Solway. The Scotish coast in the distance across the river Eden.

The Solway Firth (Scottish Gaelic: Tràchd Romhra) is a firth that forms part of the border between England and Scotland, between Cumbria (including the Solway Plain) and Dumfries and Galloway. It stretches from St Bees Head, just south of Whitehaven in Cumbria, to the Mull of Galloway, on the western end of Dumfries and Galloway.[citation needed] The Isle of Man is also very near to the firth. The firth comprises part of the Irish Sea.

The firth's coastline is characterised by lowland hills and small mountains. It is a mainly rural area, with mostly small villages and settlements (such as Powfoot). Fishing, hill farming, and some arable farming play a large part in the local economy, although tourism is increasing.

The northern part of the English coast of the Solway Firth was designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, known as the Solway Coast, in 1964. Construction of the Robin Rigg Wind Farm in the firth began in 2007.

Within the firth, there are some salt flats and mud flats that can be dangerous, due to their frequently shifting patches of quicksand.

The foggy and misty beginnings of another delightful winter day in the Riverland.

If you read my last experience with a storm, you may be wondering why I thought it was a good idea to go to the highest point in the local vicinity to attempt some lightning shots while a massive storm approached.

It was the eye-rolling, rap loving daughter's birthday and she loves storms so off we went.

The storm seemed some distance away so I set up and started with a few shots of clouds when suddenly, I felt something strange and eerie blanket the atmosphere. The heavens broke open and large bolts of lightning, three at time, started hitting the ground. I grabbed my camera and ran back to the car, terrified I was the perfect conduit for a strike with my tripod. We couldn't see a thing apart from the flashes of lightning which were coming over thick and fast. I admit I may have let a scream or two escape and was so terrified I rang my brother (a storm chaser of sorts) to assure me that I was safe in the car and wasn't going to die and to come and rescue me. He did.

As soon as he arrived, the storm had passed and left some very strange cloud formations (mammatus clouds which I will post later) and this weird shaft of light and rainbow.

Daughter did roll her eyes at my terror but thought it was the best storm ever and a perfect way to end her birthday.

While I was out myself, taking shots of another glorious sunset, I noticed these three masked lapwings on my neighbour's roof-top, also seemingly staring at the incredible sunset. I think we all stood for another ten minutes, gazing to the west, mesmerised by the amazing colours. I have often wondered if other birds and animals have an appreciation of natural beauty, and now I am sure they do!

Happy Nice Wonderful Clouds Tuesday!

Not 100% sure, but I may have caught a little sun pillar (just left of centre) in this shot. I have never seen them before, so I am only comparing this to other photos I have seen. This was a local sunset last year.

The local birds were enjoying it too with their usual viewpoint atop the TV antenna.

On the mountain road between Machynlleth and Dylife.

This is looking southeast toward the beautiful lower Flinders Ranges from a high vantage point on Weeroona Island, just a little north of Port Pirie in South Australia.

Happy Nice Wonderful Clouds Tuesday!

Keeping with my ocean theme, this is an image of Kelvin-Helmoholtz Wave Clouds (according to my brother who knows about such things).

I could not take my eyes off these freaky looking clouds, as if an upside down ocean was hanging above the city, ready to burst and drown the buildings below with salt water.

Taken (somewhat illegally) with my phone while driving over City Link on my long commute in bumper to bumper traffic down to South Gippsland to chase Giant Worms

Dawn with clouds above and below me, taken from the Big Hill Lookout in Stawell, Victoria.

Best viewed large for seeing the stars!

Happy Nice Wonderful Clouds Tuesday!

This loch is a favourite for many of the local fly fishers because of it’s hard fighting, quality trout averaging 10 - 12oz. Although "dour" at times this loch is worth persisting with as there are trout of over 3lb lurking in it’s depths.

Those clouds are actually the normal horizontal kind! I flipped the shot over on its right side and presented this from a starling's point of view as they made this aerobatic sharp turn as a flock and briefly flew at right angles to the horizon. I did a little sliding to enhance the clouds a little more.

Happy Nice Wonderful Clouds Tuesday!

A little moment of pure contentment as I gazed at the sparkling sunlight on the sea. The weather was warm, but with a gentle cool breeze. People were all around us enjoying the evening, eating fish and chips (like us), walking the dog, eating ice-creams, or out in their boats fishing. It was a little slice of momentary perfection.

Happy Nice Wonderful Clouds Tuesday!

What a wonderful morning to be in the hills. I'm really pleased with how this turned out. Just one of those days where everything goes right. Well apart from leaving my new ice axe behind at the layby in Altnafeadh. You win some you lose some.

I don't know what it depends on, but the last few days we have had incredibly beautiful sunsets.

That evening I could almost see Antoine de Saint-Exupéry on his plane looking for the Little Prince.

The sun setting behind some outbuildings on a farm near my home. Some 60+ years ago a friend lived on this farm and I would go out to visit. If I was there at "chore time" we would wander about around these buildings.

I hardly ever try HDR because of the bad taste I got from the very unnatural images that were popular a few years ago. But I tried it here to keep the pretty sky and also keep some detail in the buildings and the foreground. This is a three shot HDR image (±2 EV) run through a very basic HDR program (Picturenaut 3.2)

Thinking of all the Italians hit by bad storms and floods in the past week.

The fortress of Malcesine dates back to the last centuries of the first millenium B.C.

The castle was destroyed by the Franks in 590 A.D. and then rebuilt. In 806 the building hosted king Pepin, who came to Malcesine to visit the Saints Benigno and Caro and, after the Hungarians invasions, it was included in the episcopal feud of Verona.

It was under Alberto della Scala's and his family's control from 1277 to 1387.

During this period the Scaliger renovated the fortress which started to be referred to as "Scaliger castle".

The castle changed hands several times: it was owned twice by the Republic of Venice, then by the French, followed by the Austrians which accomplished significant strengthening works inside the building until 1866.

From that year on, it became a Venetian's ownership.

On 22 August 1902 the castle was declared a national monument.

A long string of overcast days ended in wonderful fashion tonight. Photographed over the backwaters of the Mississippi River in La Crosse County, Wisconsin.

Along the hedgerow at Misk Hill as the sun rises.

These distant tiny birds (about one kilometre away) looked like they were on a hunt for the mythical pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. When I took the shot, I did not even see them in the viewfinder (and they are still not visible in a thumbnail of the image) as I was mainly looking for a telephoto shot of the rainbow colours! I am not totally sure what they are - maybe welcome swallows?

Florida's sunsets are magnificent. This one is the stuff of Florida colours - soft oranges, pinks, turquoise. August colours if the storms don't come!
