Another species I am raising in my kitchen window since discovering them on a client's Cassia tree. The black bars only appear when the caterpillar is mature and about to pupate.

Phoebis sennae. Note that it seems only the males puddle. (The males are lemon-yellow with few markings, I believe. )

The M4 motorway at junction 42, The sky was clear and cloudless, and I thought it better to lave it like that, Clouds added may have been a distraction.

These are not familiar sunsets, nothing like the ones I grew up with. But I have a strange fascination with the gradient hue the sky takes on as it sets over the purple mountains of Southern California. The sky shows no signs of sunset until the big golden ball sinks below the horizon. But then the sky paints itself in a rainbow of a single brightness. So before I left this time, I wanted to make sure I captured it.

Cloudless Sulphur (Phoebis sennae) nectaring on Jewelweed.

Few butterflies have a long enough proboscis to reach into Jewelweed (aka Touch-Me-Not) flowers and get to their nectar. I've only seen Skippers do this before.
