I don't see these large butterflies very often & I almost never get a shot of a butterfly on these particular flowers. So this was a double win.

A cloudless sunrise on the Potomac River at Great Falls, VA, with Reggie and Erik.
First time I was kicked out for being in a restricted area here at Great Falls. I seem to be making a habit of it, lately. Next time, I'll go to the surplus store and get some camos!

This heavilly-spotted female visited the lantana yesterday - she looked like she could fly for a long time to come!

(Phoebis sennae)
Within a sea of flowering Senna, we found several of these colorful sulphurs.
With so many adults fluttering about, it was easy to determine the I.D. of these vibrant little caterpillars.

I caught this one on a coneflower in the Cancer Survivors' Park in Memphis, Tennessee. Where are the other butterflies?!

We have a lot of chimneys around here in London. Not so many cloudless days.
Taken with a Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 28/3.5.
Picked this lens up for very little in a second hand shop a few years ago, when Takumars were not popular. Delivers nice colours but it's not nearly as good, in terms of resolving power, as the later (re-designed) K 28/3.5...few lenses are.

A picturesque cascade on Grain Back in Birkdale in very strong spring sunshine under a cloudless blue sky. Grain Beck is crossed by the Pennine Way long distance footpah a short way downstream from this viewpoint.
I just finished making a website to host my best photos. It has some of my most popular photos on Flickr, but most are new posts. Check it out and let me know what you think.
Good butterfly day yesterday: we drove to the mountain town of Dahlonega for lunch (Irish stew @ Shenanigans) - and it was hoppin' up there under bluebird skies! College students and leaf-chasers everywhere. Painted ladies were nectaring on mums and joined briefly by a Monarch. We saw one other Monarch passing through town. Got home to this big yellow lady sulphur and two of my Long-tailed skippers playing in my zinnias. So a fun day!

When your mind is clouded but you stop and look up at the sky to realize...There aren't any clouds at all :P
Cloudless Sulfur Butterflies live in open sunny areas including parks, yards, gardens, beaches, road edges, abandoned fields, and scrub. Females lay eggs singly on the leaves or buds of host plants (Cassia species in the pea family) on which caterpillars later feed. Adults fly from late March through early January in Arizona and will feed on the nectar from many different flowers with long tubes including cordia, bougainvilla, cardinal flower, hibiscus, lantana, and wild morning glory.
Only about 90% sure of this ID, but the markings match my book image of the cloudless better than the clouded so I'm going with it. Interestingly, this one was found in a zinnia patch in the median of a city street.
