Went out with the Flickr Focus landscape group. Not a cloud in the sky... Still, was good to be out and to catch up with the group.
Thanks Ray for lending me your 10 stop.
Thanks for viewing my work.
The male is the brighter individual. Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park, Mission, Hidalgo County, TX.
this was shot about 20 minutes before the sun would rise above the horizon -- Sunday, September 29, 2019 -- Sony a99 & Minolta Maxxum AF 28 mm 2.8
Taken soon after sunrise on Cannon Beach, Oregon. Zero cloud action unfortunately but a nice lowish tide reflection to make this an OK pic for the records...

...cloudless morning down at Spittal - was just on my way to bed at 3am when I looked out and saw a deep glow on the horizon and took a wander down before my bed got too tempting!!
A cloudless sunset at Lepe beach. I'd like to go down again when the tide is out to try some different compositions
Allow me to introduce myself. I am a Sony A7RV full frame mirrorless camera packing a 200-600mm Sony lens. These are not macro photo but am hoping that I can learn how to make this new camera sing. This is a 61mp camera and is full frame. It is equipped with AI and a ton of other features that I will likely never use. It can be set to function as an APS-C camera as well, but I don’t intend to use it in that manner. I’ll be cropping the photos that I take and preliminary indications are that the details are still there with the frame and I can extract what I want to from the photo and still have more detail remaining in the photo. The previous Nikon and Fuji cameras never returned the type of photos that I wanted and so they were traded in for this setup. I in no way blame those cameras, but other people seem to get incredible results with them, but this ex-Sony man could never make those cameras sing. I only hope that I get decent results with this setup. It’s also a return to Sony, which I grew up with. Almost. Sony purchased Minolta and that was the camera I started with in 1975. Only time will tell if I have made the right decision.
Cloudless Sulphur on Turk’s Hat at El. Franco Lee Park (The garden of good and evil…my name for the garden at the park). The first photo is full frame and uncropped, while the second photo is a cropped portion of another photo, but they were both taken from roughly the same distance. Hope you enjoy.
I’ll try to get to everyone’s posts shortly.

Within a sea of flowering Senna, we found several of these colorful sulphurs.
With so many adults fluttering about, it was easy to determine the I.D. of these vibrant little caterpillars.
This yellow-phased one had most likely been munching on a few flowers.

Blowing Rocks Preserve, Jupiter Island, FL
After making all the effort and getting up at 4:00 am to shoot the sunrise at Blowing Rocks I felt I had to upload at least one photo even if it's not the most spectacular one. Looking through all my shooting sessions there (I think this was my 6th or 7th) I am getting less and less clouds. So the next one should be good, you can't have less that no clouds, so there should be some nice clouds then...
This boring shot looks a bit better when viewed large on black or you can view the complete set on black.
PS: For anyone who is planning on going, there seem to have been some incidents in the park so the police is enforcing the "open from sunrise-to-sunst" policy. The cop I had a run-in with wanted to kick me out first, but after I told him that I came all the way from Miami to take photos of the sunrise he let me stay. He probably thinks I am the biggest nutcase ever (who else gets up at 4:00 am, drives 80+ miles to take pictures of a sunrise), but not a crazy vandal or junkie or whatever suspicious subjects they have to deal with there.
This is our first official yard butterfly and it showed up in our blooming azaleas. Our azaleas shouldn't be blooming till April - which begs the question - is Augusta icing their azaleas??
We went to Callaway Gardens yesterday and all of their azaleas were in peak bloom - way early! Forsythia & flowering quince were in late bloom with azaleas and the first dogwoods - these don't usually bloom at the same time. Butterflies were everywhere and the most common were Cloudless sulphurs. If you live up North and love butterflies - hop a plane to Georgia and check out Callaway. It feels like summer down here.
We also saw a few foty species yesterday: Red admirals, S. Skipperling, Checkered skipper, Red-banded hairstreaks and two black swallowtails flew by plus odes: Stream cruiser, Rambur's forktail, Blue corporals.
Happy Butterfly Monday !!!
p.s. our pollen count this morning is 8,164 ... I've never seen it that high

My first picture of a Cloudless Sulphur! I have been seeing them on occasion but never had one perch. This beauty settled into the boxelder. Hanging under the leaf it became almost invisible.

There's a real-time, annotated construction video on YouTube in three parts. Part 1 includes components like the prongs, intakes, and engine @ youtu.be/ovNaaGRgwFQ. Part 2 has the cockpit and core frame @ youtu.be/WwHBxMFclbQ. And Part 3 has the final assembly and stand @ youtu.be/goD3HdeG63o.
I amped my usual build-ups: there's enough detail on YouTube to recreate the fighter and I provided voiceover. Let me know if you find re-use for some component, or make your own full variation. :)
