I was fortunate to benefit from some really murky weather amongst the hot dry days of early August.
Arriving around five in the morning, I set up at the Kit Kat Stones with a dark blue hour shot in mind, but the conditions were just a bit meh, so I opted to move on.
A while later a band of fine drizzle swept up the Burbage Valley setting up a moody backdrop for Carl Wark. As this happened the now rising sun sent an almost ethereal white glow under the low cloud base giving the whole scene a very other worldly feel.

A line of high-based thunderstorms in the Oklahoma Panhandle, north of Boise City. The storms produced gusty outflow winds, marginally severe hail, and very frequent cloud-to-ground lightning. Boise City mesonet site recorded a temperature drop of ~10 degrees Celsius as the gust front moved through. A prominent gust front eddy is evident in the cloud base, near top right of the photo.

On a hot summer's day (Hah!) we had a plan to walk up to the Nine Standards which had been on our "to do" list for quite some time.
However it was "fogged out" so we came up with a "Plan B" and had a wander over Birkett Common which was well below the cloud base.
On Birkett Common is this curious 12th Century building known as Pendragon Castle ...
Four lidar beams from four instruments operated during nighttime in Germany; orange color of night sky is caused by city lights reflected from the clouds; bright spots at the end of the lidar beams show where the laser light is reflected from the cloud droplets at the cloud base.

The cloud seems to be getting more organised now. The low down stuff has gone now, and the main cloud base is getting more solid. Ahead the path can be seen contouring around the unwanted peak of Sgurr Coire na Feinne, with the considerable bulk of Sgurr an Doire Leathain, my next target, obscured in the cloud beyond. I have walked 12kms so far and feel good still.

G-BSIC and G-UZLE took off from Chatteris Football Club (~1445Z, 14 Jan 18). G-BSIC flew low over the town whilst G-UZLE rose higher and disappeared into the low cloud base. Both aircraft landed near the Tesco store in March adjacent to the Rail and A141 an hour or so later (according to footage posted on facebook and a police tweet).

My first F-22A! Seen back in July 2010 as part of "Mazda" flight arriving at RAF Lakenheath from Elmendorf, Alaska. The weather....sucked? Despite limiting the photographic potential, there was something impressive about seeing F-22s popping out of the low cloud base on short final to land.
