The Rocketeer once claimed that flying the rocket pack was the closest he'll ever get to Heaven and he's probably right. Except for the fact that he had a truly stunning Jennifer Connelly staring at him. That would definitely be Heaven...
These are the leaves of the Sheuli flower plant. Never knew they could be so beautiful before taking this close-up shot. Because I was always looking for flowers!
After a considerable delay being blocked by cars parked to close to the track and having to call the vulchers, tow trucks, the crew encounters more cars parked a bit close as they approach Erie St. All in a days work when going to switch Wallace Press.

I literally pulled over on the highway and grabbed the camera before this amazing scene dwindled away.
This was like something right out of a movie. If you've ever seen Close Encounters, you'd know that the alien mothership generated huge cloud banks like this and then emerged from them to land. I kept waiting...
This is the closer encounter with this lizards that I have been to photograph, usually the jump and run. this one entered the house, so I approach crouching with the camera in front, the lizard was about 15 to 20 cm from the camera.

Ca. 8 cm flower printed on 30x40cm Rollei Vintage paper. I used the Cambo SC with 1:9/300mm Rodenstock Apo Ronar lens on expired and moulded (1981) Tri-X. Exposure 2 sec at f45, if I remember correctly.
I always feel the need to get in close. The patterning on these little butterflies is wonderful. I watched one land on a plant earlier and when it closed its wings it seemed to disappear. This is a male Orange Tip by the way.
It's always a lovely surprise to find one of my pictures in Explore. Thanks for looking, your favourites and kind comments are a welcome bonus.
Just an enlarged part of a Pigeon capture to show the level of detail my 'budget' Nikkor AF-S 200-500mm f5.6 ED lens can reveal.
Purchased about six years ago it was just under £1000 GBP and I took a gamble on it based on reviews and sample images. Unfortunately several people returned their copies, including the well known wildlife photographer Steve Perry from Backcountry Gallery, citing softness issues. Consequently it did concern me that I would have the same experience, though fortunately my unit has no obvious QC problems and has surprised me with it's optical acuity.
At 5.1 pounds (2.31 Kilograms) it's fairly big and heavy when coupled with my camera and grip, but I'm extending the shooting times progressively.
This shot is hand held at 500mm using the impressive 4.5 stops of VR :

Lightning strikes from the balcony overlooking mayarco beach in Saint-Jean-de-Luz. Caught up in the hustle and bustle, I persisted, exposed to the lightning strike and the elements. Lightning struck 800m away (in the photo) at the edge of the frame, and a few moments later another struck 500m out over the ocean.
