This is a view of the water powered Cliff Lift railway situated in Saltburn, Cleveland. This dates back to Victorian times and used to carry the "upper" classes up the cliff from the beach.
This was taken early in the morning hence the nice long shadow of the pier on the beach.

This is a reminder to everyone to back up your pictures. I had a backup plan, but didn't execute it on my Ireland trip in May. I put everything on an external hard drive and lost it all when it mysteriously died two days after getting back home. Even the professionals couldn't recover it.
I did have the first and last day of the trip still on my CF card and discovered this gem there.
If you don't have a backup plan, get one, now. If you do. Back up tonight!
If you look closely, you can see a trail hugging the cliff on the left side, and coming out just enough to get the best shots of the bridge.
We didn't take the trail. The clouds were ominous by this point, and some five minutes later, the sky opened up in huge droplets of rain that came down so hard and fast that they both hurt and immediately soaked you.
I'm sure that trail still felt *really safe* in the rain. ::twitch::
"Sacrifice Cliff is easily seen from many areas in Billings. The story I've heard is that a smallpox epidemic occurred during early contact of Native Americans with whites. The Natives had absolutely no immunity to the dreadful disease. Brave warriors road their horses off the cliff believing their sacrifice would save their people."

cliff richard went to an all year round christmas shop and for some reason a news paper thought that was a good story and the shop put it up in the window to attract more customers i guess
I found this Cliff Richard paperdoll in an old Dreamer annual from 1983. I found it so funny, but my sister won't let me cut it out! She's only 14 so she probably doesn't even know who he is! I love that it says "Lime legs are in!" err...
White Cliffs made from chalky limestone on the far South of Corsica Peninsula. The ancient citadelle of Bonifacio was built up right on the cliffs you can see in the middel of the picture.
The Track that runs along the top of the cliffs on Alderney. The seat is a memorial to a past resident (there are a lot of them here).
