Blands cliff, a steep cobbled street built in the 1760's by the Quaker merchant John Bland leads from the main town of Scarborough down to the sea. Professional artists began the project of painting murals on the walls in 2002 and will be continuing over the next few years, adding more paintings and sculptural work, helping to regenerate the old town of Scarborough.

Established in 1867, Cliffs Shaft Mine was the longest running underground mine in America, finally closing a century later in 1967. This shaft, built in 1919, stands 97 feet tall and is connected to extensive workings below the neighborhood to a depth of 1357 feet.
