Located on the Colorado Plateau in northern Arizona, Vermilion Cliffs National Monument includes the Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness. The Monument borders Kaibab National Forest to the west and Glen Canyon National Recreation Area to the east.
This remote and unspoiled, 280,000-acre Monument is a geologic treasure, containing a variety of diverse landscapes from the Paria Plateau, Vermilion Cliffs, Coyote Buttes, and Paria Canyon. Elevations range from 3,100 to 7,100 feet.
Visitors will enjoy scenic views of towering cliffs and deep canyons. Paria Canyon offers an outstanding three to five day wilderness backpacking experience. The colorful swirls of cross-bedded sandstone in Coyote Buttes are an international hiking destination. There are also opportunities to view wildlife, including California condors. There are two developed campgrounds just outside the Monument: Stateline and White House. Dispersed camping is allowed outside the wilderness area in previously disturbed areas.
A permit is required for hiking in Coyote Buttes North (the Wave), Coyote Buttes South, and for overnight trips within Paria Canyon.

A rainy day along the beautiful Cingshui Cliffs in the Pacific Coastal region of Taroko National Park in eastern Taiwan. This is along the Chongde Trail. The cliffs are listed as one of the eight wonders of Taiwan. You can see the tunnel for the Suhua Highway on the left.
The train ride up the eastern side of Taiwan is so wonderful!
Looking north towards Valentia Island. To get to this vantage point involved a long trek through boggy moorland and the scaling of several wire fences. There was also a very strong wind. Thankfully, the clouds parted for awhile and the late evening Sun shone gloriously.
The Cliff Dwellers have a really awesome space, in the penthouse floor at the top of the BorgWarner Building. I wish it was my apartment...
Türisalu cliff (Türisalu pank) is part of the Baltic Klint in Estonia and has an height of up to 30 metres (100 ft).
Türisalu cliff has accumulated a negative reputation as a "popular" place for suicides, especially among younger people.
Trimingham Cliffs, Norfolk.
I've not ventured this way since the summer of 1978 and a vague memory of a beach party where I was buried up to my neck in the sand and drunk lethal cocktails and beer all night.
the magnitude of these cliffs are nowhere near done justice in this photo. thankfully i have the memory of them! taken along the cabot trail in cape breton, nova scotia.

In the late 1950's British singer, actor and Sir Cliff Richard (1940) was known as Britain's answer to Elvis Presley. The ‘Cliff Richard musical’ became the number one cinema box office attraction in Britain for both 1962 and 1963.

Red Rock Cliffs surrounding the Glen Eyrie Castle, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Glen Eyrie is a 67-room English Tudor-style castle built by General William Jackson Palmer, the founder of Colorado Springs (and founder of the Rio Grande Railroad). This house was his dream home and is near Colorado Springs in the northwest foothills north of the Garden of the Gods rock formations (now a city park). After building a large carriage house, where the family lived for a time, Palmer and his wife Mary (Queen) Mellen built a 22-room frame house on the 800-acre estate. This house was remodeled in 1881 to include a tower and additional rooms, and made to resemble a stone castle, reminiscent of those native to the England from which Mrs. Palmer hailed.
Queen Palmer, at age twenty-one, opened the first public school in Colorado Springs in November, 1871. The Palmers had three daughters, Elsie, Dorothy, and Marjory.
In 1880, Mrs. Palmer suffered a mild heart attack and was advised to move to a lower altitude. She and the girls moved to the East Coast and then to England where General Palmer visited them as often as he could. Queen died on December 28, 1894, at the age of 44. In sorrow, General Palmer went to England to return Mrs. Palmer's remains and the girls to Colorado Springs.
Glen Eyrie is a 67-room English Tudor-style castle with 24 fireplaces. The castle was advanced for its time, featuring a primitive intercom system, and a chimney system that would hold the smoke until the wind was blowing in the right direction to take the smoke out of the valley. Glen Eyrie is on the National Register of Historic Places.
The castle is now owned by The Navigators. The general public is allowed on its grounds Monday through Thursday (9-4) to visit its bookstore, located at the Carriage House, or to hike its many trails. Tours of Glen Eyrie Castle are available to the public and require an advance reservation.
Events hosted at the castle include English and Victorian teas throughout the week and Christmas Madrigal Banquets beginning after Thanksgiving.
Glen Eyrie is also a conference and retreat center that puts on many Christian conferences and programs. The property in the enclosed valley is also available for use by groups for meetings, receptions, and retreats. Herds of bighorn sheep, deer and wild turkey may often be found grazing on the grounds.

Climb up the bluffs overlooking Clachtoll Beach in Assynt and this is the view you get as a reward. The water really was this azure-green color. It's quite a spectacular place.
This was shot using my 70-200 mm lens and zoomed out to 175 mm. That lens is not the easiest thing to carry when climbing small cliffs, but the effort was worthwhile I think.
Another shot I didn't originally process but decided to now... I like the rim ligiting for some reason. This is taken next to a street... believe it or not!
Taken at the Cliffs of Moher in County Clare Ireland. A very beautiful place, especially with the sun shining. Was amazing seeing so many people out and about enjoying the great weather.
This was 3 shots combined in Photomatix and touched up in PS.
I hope you enjoy today's post. If you like what you see the greatest compliment you could give me is to share this with others. I appreciate all the feedback, comments and 'likes' I get and read and respond to every one of them.

Through the Omnibus Public Land Management Act of 2009, Congress designated the Red Cliffs National Conservation Area (NCA) in Washington County, Utah “to conserve, protect, and enhance …the ecological, scenic, wildlife, recreational, cultural, historical, natural, educational, and scientific resources” of public lands in the NCA.
The Colorado Plateau, Great Basin Desert, and Mojave Desert overlap in Washington County. In this transition zone, unusual plant and animal species have evolved, including the dwarf bearclaw-poppy and Shivwits milk-vetch, small native plants that grow nowhere else on earth. The hot, arid Mojave Desert provides habitat for diverse wildlife, such as kit fox, Gambel’s quail, and the Mojave Desert tortoise. This native tortoise is listed under the Endangered Species Act and is at risk of extinction due to habitat loss and other factors. The newly-designated Red Mountain and Cottonwood Canyon Wilderness areas are also within this NCA. Here, hikers, backpackers, and equestrians can enjoy scenic vistas, solitude, and natural quiet, just a few miles drive from local communities.
More than 130 miles of non-motorized recreation trails (hiking, mountain biking, and equestrian trail riding) are available for public use in the NCA. The Red Cliffs Recreation Area offers camping and day use areas, in a developed site where fees are collected. All motorized vehicle travel, including Off-Highway Vehicles, is limited to designated roads in the NCA. No motorized or mechanized vehicle travel is allowed in the Red Mountain and Cottonwood Canyon Wilderness areas, without special authorization from BLM.
