I always look for something to silhouette when the sun is dropping and here a Wildebeest served the purpose. (Blue Wildebeest - Connochaetes taurinus) (Sony a1M2, 400mm @ f/2.8, 1/12,800 second, ISO 640) (Why 12,800 second and ISO 640 one might ask. I can’t remember what I was thinking at the time by I usually leave my ISO at 640 on this camera, and 800 on the a9iii, as those settings are the next cleanest settings after ISO 100. 12,800/second was needed to through the wildebeest into silhouette and show the shape of the sun.)

The island is located on the north side where the Dnieper enters premises of Kyiv city, with its north part extending some distance north towards the mouth of Desna River. It is located in the confluence of both Desna River and Dnieper River.

The island is separated from the right-bank Kyiv by the Dnieper and from the left-bank Kyiv by Desenka which is a distributary of Desna River, making Trukhaniv island part of its river delta.

It has an area of 4.5 km2. The island is mostly covered by greenery. Until 1957, the only method of transportation to the island was by boat in the summer or by crossing the ice in the winter. In 1957, the Park Pedestrian Bridge was built, easing the travel to and from the island.

Trukhaniv Island contains numerous cafés, restaurants, sports complexes, and the largest as well as one of the cleanest city beaches.

Also known as the “Blue Lake”, Lake Annecy (French: Lac d'Annecy), at the heart of the Savoy Alps, takes pride in being one of the cleanest and purest lakes in the world because of strict environmental regulations introduced in the 1960s.

It is the third largest lake in France, after the Lac du Bourget and Lac de Grand-Lieu, if the French part of Lake Geneva (which is also partly in Switzerland) is excluded.

Lake Annecy was formed 18,000 years ago, when large alpine glaciers melted. It owes its reputation to its extraordinary location, which has been the inspiration of many artists. The impressionist painter Paul Cézanne (1839-1906), inspired by the light that bathes the site and is reflected in the turquoise water, immortalised the lake with his renowned oil painting, Le Lac bleu (the Blue Lake) in 1896.

Traditional mud brick construction is a cheap and easy form of making all kinds of shelters, either for humans, animals or storage. Mud brick has many positive qualities, it is load bearing and has good insulation properties. It is also fire resistant and forgiving, meaning that if you make a mistake you can correct it by remaking it. Mud brick construction also has the cleanest ecological footprint as it returns to the earth from where it came. The materials used to make mud bricks are available all over Cyprus. This includes clay soil, chopped straw and water. It is most economical to use readily available materials rather than transport soil in from distant areas. All that is needed is water and man power to mix it and the sun to dry it. The external coat of render protects the mud bricks from the rain.

However, this perfect form of construction has been replaced in recent times with imported methods which consist of cement and hollow clay bricks offering little insulation and add significantly to the cost of house bulding.

SS Naramata is a steam tug commissioned by the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) company. She pushed barges and broke ice on Okanagan Lake from 1914 to 1967. After over 50 years of service, the boat was eventually retired and left to rest in Penticton beside her sister ship, SS Sicamous. In 2001, she was purchased by the S.S. Sicamous Restoration Society and is currently undergoing extensive renovations.] Naramata is the only interior steam tug to be preserved in the province of British Columbia, Canada.

Manufacture

Built for CPR, the hull, engine, boiler, and steel fittings of Naramata were pre-manufactured in Port Arthur, Ontario (now Thunder Bay) by Western Dry Dock and Shipbuilding Company, with final assembly taking place in Okanagan Landing Construction began in September 1913 and was completed by the 20th of April in 1914. Upon completion, the total cost was CA$43,000[1] and she was given her name in tribute to the beautiful village of Naramata, a town which at that time was responsible for producing a large portion of the valley's fruit supply.

Crew

The crew aboard Naramata consisted of 11-13 men: a captain or first officer, a pilot, two deckhands, a chief engineer, a second engineer, two firemen, one bargeman, and a cook who also served as a steward.[5] The ship was the first on Okanagan Lake to have a flushing toilet and was equipped with a functioning shower. Due to the dirty nature of the job, crew members were required to shower at least once a week. Often, it was a joke that the crew members were considered to be some of the "cleanest and dirtiest" on the lake.

The role of SS Naramata

Naramata would occasionally carry passengers (maximum 22) up or down Okanagan Lake, but she was mainly employed as a tugboat for the Canadian Pacific Railway. CPR tugboats not only pushed and pulled barges filled with valuable goods, but in the winter months they would often work as icebreakers, clearing the way for other larger and often wooden-hulled passenger ships. Naramata would often run ahead of Sicamous with crew members leaving a cardboard trail as a way to mark the clear path. More commonly, however, was the barge service. CPR tugboats could push up to two barges at once, and with barges capable of holding up to ten railcars at one time this was no small feat. When transporting two barges, Naramata would be wedged between them from astern, resulting in a "V"-shape that allowed for easy maneuvering. Alternately, barges could also be pulled from behind the tugs.

Retirement

Naramata was retired in August 1967. After her retirement, she was kept at Okanagan Landing and passed through a variety of owners.

Restoration

In 1991, Naramata was sold to the Kettle Valley Railway Heritage Society and the City of Penticton. On October first of that same year, she was moved to Penticton where she remained afloat beside Sicamous until 1993.[8] Upon discovering that the hull had begun to corrode, she was immediately beached in order to prevent sinking. As of 2014 she is sitting in a pool of water with hopes to beach her permanently next to Sicamous.

In 2001, Naramata was purchased by the S.S. Sicamous Restoration Society,[2] and by 2003 the Society had begun to clean and repaired the damaged ship. This included the removal of three tons of coal and asbestos, general carpentry and safety repairs, and the installation of a steel staircase to allow for easier public access. In 2004 a CA$90,000 grant was awarded to the Society by the Western Economic Diversification Fund, a federal government program. This permitted further restoration of the ship and she received a deep cleaning and a fresh coat of paint. This was followed by the restoration of the pilothouse, some crew cabins, the replacement of numerous windows and the implementation of a security system.

Lac d'Annecy, Haute-Savoie, France.

The Lac d'Annecy is a lake in Haute-Savoie, in eastern France. It is famous for being one of the cleanest lakes in the world. It is also the second largest lake in France after Lake Bourget, except for the French part of Lake Geneva.

The lake was formed 18,000 years ago, during the melting of the great alpine glaciers.

It is fed by several small rivers, born in the nearby mountains (Ire, Eau morte, Laudon, Bornette and Biolon), and by a powerful underwater source, the Boubioz, which rises at a depth of 82 m. It is surrounded: to the east by the Bornes massif; to the west, by the massif of the Bauges; to the north, by the agglomeration of Annecy; and to the south, through a wide valley.

The lake expels its excess water into the Thiou river and the Vassé canal, which join and feed the Fier river, 1500 m north of Annecy, which eventually joins the Rhone river.

It is a very attractive tourist place, known for its nautical activities.

The Königssee is a lake in the extreme southeast Berchtesgadener Land district of the German state of Bavaria, near the border with Austria.

The lake is noted for its clear water and is advertised as the cleanest lake in Germany. For this reason, only electric-powered passenger ships, rowing and pedal boats have been permitted on the lake since 1909.

This week I visited this lovely place and the finest weather in the world was with me.

I went back to the area where I got my songster trio a few days ago. Actually, the reason I went in the first place was for the Red-winged Blackbirds. But they stayed too far away, in complex dried stalks of stuff. Today I brought even "bigger" glass. They sang, but this one with the cleanest view would put his head down when he hit the high notes instead of reaching out to tell the world. So ... this is as good as it got.

The pretty coastal village of Mundesley is some seven miles south-east of Cromer on the Noerfolk coast. It is within the Norfolk Coast AONB and was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086. The beautiful sandy beach, which is overlooked by colourful beach huts, is one of the cleanest around. There are plentiful sands stretching for miles with very little shingle. A few years ago it was voted the Best Blue Flag Beach in Britain.

In WWII the beaches in this part of the country were very heavily mined in order to deter an invasion, and it took many years and cost the lives of a number of bomb disposal experts to make all the beaches safe again. There is a memorial to them on the top of the cliff.

I was digging through this years Spring files and forgot I had this one. I remember how tough this individual was to get. I shot this one with my car blind next to the dirt road. This was the cleanest frame I could come up with.

Konigssee is said to be the deepest and cleanest lake in Germany; you'll find only electric boats gliding quietly across it.

The emerald-green Königssee near Berchtesgaden is surrounded by steep walls of rock, with the 1800-metre east wall of the Watzmann towering above its west shore.

Not the best light or cleanest photo I've ever taken of a perched LEO but I was pleased to see this one

It was taken at the first site I ever visited back in April 2015. I can count on one hand the number of photos I've taken here. The birds at this site have always been nocturnal, usually only venturing out in twilight at the earliest.

Not only was it out hunting earlier than usual, it then landed on a post within a reasonable distance for a couple of photos, making it for me, a little bit special :)

This will be my last posting for a little while as we are going down to our holiday home in Cornwall for two or three weeks. Very many thanks to you all for visiting my photostream and leaving so many nice comments, which I very much appreciate. I'll try and catch up with you when we get back.

If you take Highway 1 south from Half Moon Bay, at the 11 mile mark you'll arrive at San Gregorio Beach. San Gregorio Creek empties to the ocean here and forms a natural fresh water lagoon behind a sand berm that acts as a natural barrier to the ocean. This has historically been a Coho Salmon spawning site and is one of the cleanest beaches in the state.

A colourful local sunrise saved this session as I struggled for a composition, in the end I just looked for the cleanest piece of shoreline and looked for the water movement to help me out.

So a disappointment, well for artistic inner self maybe, but for the sole hell no just open your eyes

This Grizzly perched nicely for me allowing me to get a few shots. Unfortunately though not on the cleanest of backdrops due to their habit of perching low to the ground amongst the grass.

Oh man, I tried so many different backgrounds, lighting compositions treatments on this theme that I’ve lost track of what might be my best shot. Opted for one of the simplest and cleanest ultimately, but expect some more in future posts!

You can see what a beautiful day it was for reflection shots and at this point I was still shooting one handed as I know the bridge we reached before I made friends with Jonathan because we reached a point where I required a steadier hand. The previous two shots leant themselves to looking a little arty I thought so I did up the saturation on them both but this is virtually straight out of camera but with a couple of tweaks that i do on any shot as it was a raw file. The canal was the cleanest and most litter and leaf free that i have ever seen it and i didn't even need the spot healing tool. There were no trees reflected at this point so I left this as a straight shot of our pretty canal...

I would like to thank you all for all your lovely encouraging and thoughtful comments and I promise I read and enjoy each one and try more hard to keep up with those I follow than replying.

I simply cannot do both because I am not a quick thinker or writer...but I am constantly inspired by all your wonderful photography and do my best to keep up with your Flickr photos 😊😊

Just what was Stratford thinking when they painted the fuel and water tanks white?!! Needless to say they immediately lost their brilliance under a covering of brake dust and this slide is the cleanest picture I can find. Judging by the insect-less front end this may be the first train it has worked since the ministrations of Stratford painters. The 'Jubilee' was the 08.30 to Norwich and the 15.48 return.

I'm usually surrounded by people, it's wonderful, but I also enjoy being alone. For me, being alone means having my own time, which I can use unhurriedly and do the things I love. Photography is one of those things.

We had come to Finnish Lapland after Norway and it was the second night when the sun went down after long nightless night period. I stand on the slopes of the Pallas fells and enjoy the play of colors. By the way, the Pallas fells have the cleanest air in the world, according to research. Maybe that's why I want to come to these fells every year and hope that they keep me young when I get to breathe their clean air and climb their slopes.

It didn't pick the cleanest log but at least the background was decent.

Can't remember if this was on my new little apple tree or my new little cherry tree. The only full blossom we've had. And we've had to go to extremes to protect them from the deer, that think we plant everything as a favor to them ! I remind myself constantly we live in their world.... still... don't want them eating my trees ! And no... not the cleanest shot, we have a very fine deer fence around the trees to help keep the blossoms safe from munching and no matter what I did I got that fuzz look. But I kinda like it.

On the 13th of February, after having photographed the diverted freight train in Boechout on line 13, I drove to Berlaar where I've got 4 freight trains in an half hour time. However, not directly with the cleanest locs in front.

This one was the second cargo of four that passed the lenses of four photographers, two of them with high poles (among which myself) and two on the snow covered ground.

Point Reyes National Seashore is a 71,028-acre (287.44 km2) park preserve located on the Point Reyes Peninsula in Marin County, California. As a national seashore, it is maintained by the US National Park Service as an important nature preserve. Some existing agricultural uses are allowed to continue within the park. Clem Miller, a US Congressman from Marin County wrote and introduced the bill for the establishment of Point Reyes National Seashore in 1962 to protect the peninsula from development which was proposed at the time for the slopes above Drake's Bay. All of the park's beaches were listed as the cleanest in the state in 2010.

A pair of KCS units bring UP train MNLNP-30 through Terminal JCT on Main Track 2 of the UP KC Metro Sub as they pass a pair of repainted Ex-ATSF GP39-2's tied down with BNSF train Y-KCK3111-31T, which has been here since this morning after UP's 18th St. Yard couldn't take their transfer from BNSF's Argentine Yard.

► █░▓ THE FIRST MINUTE of a new day. Sun had been away for just 7 hours and never sank really low under the horizon - at 01:30 the sky due north acquires just that same Abendrot light and color nuances above the horizon that had been displayed after the sunset at north-west. It gives the illusion that the sun will rise there, due north, in just half an hour. This phenomenon is not something you can observe in South Europe.

Daylight Again (1980-1981) is one of my favorite albums by Crosby, Stills & Nash. Actually, all the albums of CSN&Y are my favorite, but this one in particular. It is full of poetic layers and finesse. I used to listen to this LP at the middle of the night, when the mains power supply was at its cleanest and thus achieved the best possible sound from the amplifiers. The track "Southern Cross" combines the topic of astronomy and sailing with this image.

Back to this image: The imaginary line drawn from the camera towards the sun (at 49° N.E.) and further on as the crow flies, circumpasses Stockholm in Sweden, Finland, Workuta in North Russia, big chunk of Siberia, Vladivostok at the shore of East Sea and Osaka in Japan for the first 9000 km, and then for the next staggering 9000 km above Pacific Ocean all the way to Wellington, New Zealand.

With a depth of 1,943 feet, Crater Lake in Oregon is the deepest lake in the United States - and one of the most beautiful.

The water's intense blue color is an indication of its great depth and purity. Surrounded by cliffs, the lake is fed entirely by rain and snow.

Scientists consider Crater Lake to be the cleanest and clearest large body of water in the world.

..............................................

Crater Lake rests in the belly of a dormant volcano. The volcano once stood 12,000 feet tall, but it collapsed after a major eruption 7,700 years ago.

Later eruptions formed Wizard Island, a cinder cone that rises from the water. The park has an abundance of fascinating volcanic features, including a second rocky island, the Phantom Ship.

Not the cleanest picture since I was in a moving vehicle. The colours are too pretty though.

Winter seems to be coming to an end with the forecast this week. In the meanwhile the battle continues for railroads in Iowa. Winter the past 7 weeks has been pretty tough on everyone in the Midwest. Last night Canadian Pacific's B-41 local left Mason City around 2am with a wedge plow and 69 cars. Multiple derailments of the plow at iced over crossing changed the plans around noon today. The plow was setout at Britt and onward west B41 went with B42's crew onboard. This is the cleanest the power will be cause the next 70 miles the power will battle thru a fair amount of snow to Spencer. Nice treat today as this section of railroad normally has night time locals.

Ruins of a medieval fortified church are located above the village of Lúčka, situated at the border of the Slovenské rudohorie mountain range and the national park of Slovenský kras. The village had been known since 1409 as part of the Turňa Castle Estate donated to Pál Besen by King Sigismund.

According to the testimony provided by the local church, however, the village dates back to at least the half of the 13th century. The church itself was built as an early-Gothic church of the Gemer style. In the first half of the 15th century, it was surrounded by a defensive stone wall with a watchtower situated in the front. The small fortress was captured by Jan Jiskra’s troopsand is commonly called the Hussite church by the locals. Only the external walls of the church and the considerably lowered defensive wall with the tower that later on served as a belfry have been preserved up to the present. The quadratic tower used to have two floors in the past, with three windows on the first floor and three loopholes on the ground floor that served to watch the surroundings and to protect the fortress from three sides: the west, the south, and the east. The top of the slope upon which the church was built provided for the natural protection from the north.

The area where the church stands counts among the ecologically cleanest territories in Slovakia. It provides for exceptionally good conditions for recreationin a peaceful natural setting and for short walks in the basin of the Čremošná, to the lake of Lúčka, as well as to the surrounding beech and fir forests. Moreover, the unique natural reserve of Zádielska dolina is located in close distance, lined with plateaux where traces of fortified prehistoric settlements were confirmed by archaeological surveys.
