Here's another shot from my first trip down to see Reading and Northern 2102 leading the second of the reborn 'Reading Rambles.' This is the going away view looking the opposite direction from this shot: flic.kr/p/2nxwGtA

The big 4-8-4 is storming up home rails with 19 cars and a sold out train of 750 passengers headed from North Reading to Jim Thorpe. Today this one time RDG mainline is known as the RBMN's Reading Division mainline, and this is about MP 76.7 as she steams up Main 1 on a two mile stretch of restored double track.

Brining up the rear is gorgeous boat tail observation car number 7, named King Coal. Acquired in the auction from the estate of the bankrupt Iowa Pacific Corporation, per TRAINS Magazine:

Former SLRG No. 3305, Mardi Gras, a streamlined observation-lounge rebuilt in 1947 from Illinois Central 1916 heavyweight 88-seat coach 2188 to serve on the City of New Orleans, IC’s secondary intercity train on the Chicago-New Orleans route. This car has a long history in excursion service for the New Orleans and Roanoke chapters of the National Railway Historical Society.
