Excellent concert at Rochdale Music Society last Saturday: Jill Kemp, recorder virtuoso accompanied by Aleksander Szram.
Another piece was Edward Gregson's "Aztec Dances" - a lively and interesting four movement work. Edward Gregson (a former Principal of the RNCM) was present and a lively discussion resulted afterwards.
On October 13, 2011, at the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art in Auburn, Alabama, eight student pianists from Auburn University performed pieces by Franz Liszt as part of the weekly lunchtime classical music series, A Little Lunch Music. A little bit of melancholy here.
This is the last concert with this orchestra which has trained my son so well since the last two years. It also time for him to say goodbye to his old amazing wood companion which became too small for him. Next year, new upper level orchestra and an adult size cello.
My gosh, children grow up so fast...

The Mercury Living Presence Collector's Edition, vol. 3
Dorati's Mercury set has always been one of my favorite Tchaikovsky cycles. Great orchestra, great sound, sympathetic conductor who understands the composer...who could ask for anything more?

Playing classical music on the lute - very accomplished (and successful).
A reader, Yvonne, left this comment on my blog:
"I absolutely idolise the lute player. His name is Boka Bence.
He is such a good player, and you see him in all seasons of the year, in Venice. I’d like to know his life story, he looks sad. I understand he started as a guitar player, then a friend gave him a lute that he had made."
