The Azuma Kotobuki Kai, a branch of the Azuma-Ryu
Classical Dance School (Tokyo, Japan), was established in
Southern California in 1968 by Madame Sumako Azuma I.
The current instructors are Sumako Azuma II (Los Angeles)
and Kikusue Azuma (LA, Orange and Ventura Counties and
Kapa’a Hawaii). While the instructors teach many classical
dances, they also break new ground by incorporating
classical dance technique with modern music to help reach
the younger generations. The purpose of the Azuma
Kotobuki Kai is to preserve and promote Japanese culture
through the art of Nihon Buyo, or classical Japanese dance.

The freestanding late-historicist neo-classical building was built in 1913 by Viktor Siedek. The facade is divided by flat central and side projections, the central axis is emphasized by Doric pilasters below caryatids and convex balconies in the subzone and a superimposed temple portico in the upper zone. Downstairs is the portico of the former Café Herrenhof. In the top two floors was the reform school of teacher Eugenie Schwarzwald established; the by Adolf Loos created equipment does no longer exist.

Der frei stehende späthistoristisch-neoklassizistische Bau wurde 1913 durch Viktor Siedek errichtet. Die Fassade ist durch flache Mittel- und Seitenrisalite gegliedert, die Mittelachse wird durch dorische Halbsäulen unter Karyatiden und konvexen Balkonen in der Unterzone und einen vorgeblendeten Tempelportikus in der Oberzone betont. Im Erdgeschoß befindet sich die Säulenhalle des ehemaligen Café Herrenhof. In den beiden obersten Geschoßen war die Reformschule der Pädagogin Eugenie Schwarzwald etabliert; die von Adolf Loos geschaffene Einrichtung ist nicht mehr vorhanden.
