Built in 1925, this Classical Revival-style building was constructed to house the Knoxville branch of the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA), and replaced an earlier 19th Century house on the same site, which had previously housed the YWCA. The building features a flemish bond red brick exterior, twelve-over-twelve, twelve-over-sixteen, and twelve-over-twenty-four double-hung windows, keystones and stone sills, a main entrance on Clinch Avenue with double doors, a transom, a stone surround with pilasters, rosettes, and a pediment, a cornice with dentils, a stone base, quoins, and a side entrance with a blind arch above. The interior of the building portrayed a hotel lobby in Indianapolis in the movie “October Sky” in 1999, and the building today houses the offices of the YWCA of Knoxville & the Tennessee Valley.
