Crepuscular rays, lake effect clouds, and "sea smoke" interact on and above Lake Michigan.
Set description: The polar vortex has made its return to Chicago, once again turning the area into Chiberia. While not quite as cold as the last time this arctic air mass visited, it was cold enough (and pretty enough) for some cool photos along the lake near North Avenue Beach

Chicagohenge. Twice a year, around the spring and fall equinoxes, the sun’s rays and the city’s grid come into divine alignment. In Chicago, the Sun will set down the long equatorially-aligned grid of streets and buildings known as Chicagohenge.

Uniform
.
Was going through my collection of photos from last year. I first started photography when my friend David insisted it would be fun to go out and take some shots around town. This is from my very first outing with the camera, and I just like how powerful it feels. Just a uniform building in its simplicity , that just feels like it towers over you. The blue of the sky and the eggshell white of the building just reach out to me.

A creative color, ultra-frigid look at Chicago from the Adler Planetarium.
Set Description: I couldn't help myself. I bundled up and took a quick walk along the lakefront to catch the steam rising off Lake Michigan. Freezing is an understatement. my fingers were numb after just 15 minutes - through 2 layers of gloves. My eyelashes, eyebrows, face mask, and hat even grew icicles

A 2-frame panoramic stitch from the John Hancock Center at night.
When I first shot from the JHC roof last October, I was kicking myself for not actively shooting frames to make a panorama...the awesome view and nerves were apparently clouding my judgment. Well, I was going back through some of my raw frames yesterday, and realized two images I took might just stitch together - and they did. Not sure how I missed this before, but I'm glad I did!
