That's a sketch from an old children magazine (Late 80s Taleem-o-Tarbiat) . I wish I could draw like that!

I'm moving at the end of the summer and don't want to take my entire collection with me, so I'll be thinning it out significantly to raise money for the move and to make packing easier. I've been meaning to do this for years, but now seems like the right time. If anybody knows a good alternative to evil-bay, then I'm open to suggestions for how to ditch a lot of these dolls and fashions, along with many crates of "extras" I've gotten with case lots.

Somewhere in northern Ethiopia we stopped to watch the landscape and the plateau that opened in front of our curious eyes. Attracted by the noise of the engines, clouds of children appeared from behind corners, rocks, bushes, went down fast to rough slopes and agile climbed the steep ridges. In no time we were surrounded by a poor childhood that reminded us, by their mere presence, our luck to be born in the right part of the world. Expressionless eyes watching our opulence and nothing asked, making disturbing the meeting and digging even deeper into our guilt.

----------------------------------

In the fall/winter Leafy McGee( always a red leaf from the tree beside my house) and Cigs McStix (an empty Marlboro Menthol pack) and I would have crappy adventures.

This one time I remember the three of us ( I didn’t have very many friends because I didn’t have any cool toys or video games or anything) went to the playground and we were taking turns going down the slide. Well, going home I got caught on a tree branch and ripped a hole in my jacket. Well I knew my mom would be upset so I ran home and got all the money I had been saving and went to the store and got scotch tape to try and repair my jacket. Well I somehow made it worse looking. Anyhow, my mom saw my jacket and beat me. All I got that year for Chirstmas was a new jacket. Oh yeah I had to wear the jacket with a hole in it from about the beginning of November to the end of December.

আহ্! কত না মধুময় ছিল শৈশবের সেই দিন গুলি। এখনও সেই স্মৃতিগুলিকে আঁকড়িয়ে থাকতে ইচ্ছা করে।

the kids I spent most of my childhood with.

I was hunting through my unfinished edits and I rediscovered this image. This was an experiment. Did not quite come out as I intended, so I am looking forward to December when the carousel is back.

So I can capture the story from my imagination.

I'm in California for the holidays because my mother has been sick and in the hospital. It looks like she's doing better and should be back home in about four weeks or so after building up her strength in a rehab hospital.

I'm in the process of packing up and heading to San Francisco Airport to return to Japan, but I thought I'd take a photo of me standing in front of my childhood home. This is the first and only home my family owned. We moved here just before I began my freshman year at high school -- so roughly 46 years ago. You'll note I'm wearing PJs for the first time since elementary school. I don't really know why. I saw them while I was shopping and thought I'd give them a try. Much more appropriate for the photo than what I usually wear.

LIFE IS NOT A BOX OF ROSES

As you can see, I was never short of female company even when young. though I was perhaps a tad braver then. :)
