Continuing my theme of various ecosystems with some wildlife residents of the prairie.
The prairie ecosystem occupies the lower and mid-latitudes of the Interior Plains of Canada, the United States, and Mexico. It includes all of the Great Plains as well as the wetter, hillier land to the east. From west to east, generally the drier expanse of shortgrass prairie gives way to mixed grass prairie and ultimately the richer and wetter soils of the tallgrass prairie.
Lesser Prairie-Chickens inhabit shortgrass prairies of the southern Great Plains, especially areas where shinnery oak, sand sagebrush, and bluestem grasses (such as little bluestem and sand bluestem) predominate.
The northern population of the LPR is listed as threatened/vulnerable while the southern population is listed as endangered. This is due to significant habitat loss and fragmentation of their native grassland ecosystems. This habitat loss has been caused by various factors, including conversion of grasslands to cropland, livestock grazing, energy development, and fire suppression. Additionally, climate change and the use of herbicides further threaten their habitat.

If it’s possible for a chicken to look guilty, this one should. It was no good trying to hide behind the twig, we knew it had escaped somehow from where it should have been and was busy wandering around, on a rather steep slope on someone else’s property, scraping up the leaves looking for bugs to eat.

Fried Chicken Wings with Fish Sauce
This is a very popular dish which most Vietnamese people love.. It's also very easy to make, only taking about 15 minutes following this recipe:
Ingredients:
Chicken wings
1 teaspoon garlic
1/2 spring onion
1/4 teaspoon dried chili
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon chicken powder
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 teaspoon fish sauce
2 spoons cooking oil
1 teaspoon suger
Corianders
Preparation:
Chicken wings wash and cut it to 2 or leave it as normal, peeled and chopped garlic, sliced onion, cut spring onion about 4 or 5 cm long.
Sauce:
Mixed up pepper, salt,chili and lemon.
How to make:
Soak chicken wings with salt, ground black pepper, chicken powder and leave it from 5 to 10 minutes then deep fried in cooking oil until it looks dark yellow. Take them out and drain. Heat two spoons of cooking oil in the fried pan, then adding all the ingredients and cooked chicken wings and mix them well for 3 minutes. Put them all on the plate and add a pinch of ground pepper and garnish with lettuce, tomatoes and coriander.

The prompt in the Blythe a Day group was "Bubble Bath/Snuggle a Chicken" (since it was Wubba Wednesday) so two of my little 'uns set to it.
I forgot to tell them a thing or two. . .
However, I wish they had managed to wash them, filthy as pigs them chicks! They are quite clean animals normally.

Captain Cockerel and his bloodthirsty buck-buckaneers prowl the seas in search of gold. Golden corn, that is.
Some details:

(bottom left:) The poop deck. Perhaps the chickens take the name a bit too literally. Or perhaps they are just chickens, who poop everywhere.
I should have gotten a picture of the crow's, er, hen's nest up on the main mast, but, alas! I did not.

I recently got chickens, and have been enjoying watching them roaming my yard and doing their thing. Which is mostly pooping and eating.
