From the base of the box:
"'The Game of Chess', painted by Arturo Ricci in the latter half of the nineteenth century, is a typical example of this artist's work. Born in Florence in 1854 Ricci studied under Tito Conti before finding his own individual style in paintings of landscape and genre subjects.
Ricci is best known for his very elaborate portrayals of sumptuous interiors. In 'The Game of Chess' he creates a scene from the past, of an eighteenth century rococo drawing room and an intimate group of friends. The figures are drawn together both through the structured composition and through their game of chess. The young man, obviously amused by the state of play, himself seems to be playing a game with the affections of the ladies. One blushes behind her fan.
This work, as a whole, is delicate, frivolous and charming, it is vibrant with rich colours and textures. The artist has drawn attention to the smallest details, in the mouldings of the doors, the marbling of the floor and the gilding of the looking glass. It is interesting to note that the artist has picked out the same turquoise, pink, and yellow bouquets to decorate the furniture, the mural above the door, and even the fine embroidery on the young man's waistcoat."
Annoyingly, we found that 5 pieces were missing in this otherwise enjoyable costume genre jigsaw puzzle. A saving grace was the fact that it featured the old Falcon cut.

Some guys have a chess game going at Buckingham Fountain, Grant Park, Chicago.
It's good to see that some people can still enjoy life without their heads buried in their phones.

My third-grade grandaughter has been exposed to the existence of chess, and her mommy asked me to begin teaching her the game. We had our first lesson this morning after a game of Scrabble. Time will tell whether there will be a second lesson. To introduce her to the basics of the game, I got out my favorite chess set. I realized this morning that I got it about 50 years ago -- fall 1971. The plastic insert that holds the pieces is deteriorating and the box shows signs of age, but it's still my favorite. ... The Ohio University sticker was added a few years later. ...
- If you know that chess games usually only have a white side and a black side then you probably guessed that this picture of red pieces is not of normal chess board. Find out tomorrow on what chess game this is!
Something kinda artwork, chess-game found at the Anti-War-House, Germany.
Not truly one of my best photos, but the one with the most important message.

We didn't realise we'd already assembled this puzzle when we bought it recently, but when we checked and found the previous copy had 5 pieces missing, we felt we had to attempt it again, in case it was complete. Sadly, there were 2 pieces missing: an improvement of sorts I suppose. Perhaps if we find another copy it might be complete?

Dagstuhl has tons of cool facilities, and not all of them are used very consistently. This game room, for example, is a beautiful space, but is usually empty, and I think I've only ever seen one game happening here. If this chess board was moved to the coffee room, I suspect it would get used a lot more.

Tom's first chess game. It took us 30 minutes from start to a checkmate and he didn't get bored. He also didn't get angry when he lost. Perfect sparring partner I'd say, if he only had a clue what is it about. Still can't complain, he is the only one at home who wants to play with me. Anyway I think Go is much easier to comprehend for a 3-years-old.
