For the flickr group, "Smile on Saturday," and the Saturday, June 10 challenge: Portray A Book Title.

Portraying (via a shot of one of my Chess games) the book title: "Game On," by Janet Evanovich, one of my favorite authors.

Don't be a pawn in somebody's game. Find the attitude which gives you the maximum strength and the maximum dignity, no matter what else is going on

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment on this photo, it's very much appreciated!

Once the game is over, the king and the pawn go back in the same box.  In life and death we are equal.

HMBT!

versus an invisible adversary

This weeks theme of the 'Smile on Saturday' group is 'PAWNS'. I have had this chess game for many years but rarely use it nowadays as nobody wants to play with me and I think the chess pieces were happy to leave their box for a moment. The match ended quickly, though, as the white pawn surrended to the 'enemy' before the had even started to play. :) HSoS !

Another impromptu MM. I am still trying to get the house organized so this was the only game out to take a shot of. I know there will be a million chess pieces for the challenge and I apologize for my lack of creativity. The only thing I liked about this image was the shadows. I guess I have to like the shadows considering I didn't get a chance to take a MM shot until it was time for bed and the only light was our living room lamp, haha!

The game is afoot, moves have to be made, players are removed, there is no other way, if you know the game you know the moves, you know after the first few moves what the outcome will be, will it be called or move to the end, checkmate! It is digital, on or off, black or white, 1 or 0, simple as that in reality but in the game there is color and options 65,000 or 262,000 or is it premium 16.7 million different moves then you wake from the color dreams only to realize it is black and white, 1 or 0, yes or no, on or off.

Pawns not only create the sketch for the whole painting, they are also the soil, the foundation, of any position

These miniature chess pieces are from a 30-year old electronic Kasparov pocket chess game. The pieces are very tiny, around 2cm high, and in fact remind me how much my eyesight has deteriorated because when I took these out of the box the other day I had a hard time seeing which piece was which.

I basically learned how to play chess on this little board and it was one of the first 'computer' chess games where you played against a machine. It tells you where it wants it's pieces to move to by lighting up two red lights on an X and a Y axis (you can see one glowing here). Suffice to say this little board beat the pants off me for a very long time before I started to improve. The amazing thing is it still works. I pulled it out of the box, clicked the on switch and it sprang into life. If you don't see me for awhile I may just be renewing my acquaintance with Mr Kasparov!

The Queen's Gambit

Lift you up,

hold me down.

Whatever happens,

please stay around.

Life is a chess game,

and I think I'm your pawn

I get the feeling that soon

you'll be gone.

I understand that there are sights to be seen,

but here stands the pawn that wants to be queen.

I thought you were a king, not a knight with no sword.

Now I stand as queen because I crossed the board.

Little did I know that's how you had planned it.

Now comes the suffrage of this queen's gambit.

The first image that I upload this year 2025, is of a game of chess, a game as old as known, which has its origins in India, although modern chess, as we know it today, has more than five hundred years, the first game of modern chess, was played in Spain in the year 1475, besides being an ancient game and good for exercising our brain, is played by many people from different countries of the world. The black and white pieces face each other in another game, who do you think will win the game?

Salud. Gracias!

Chess anyone? This is my Dad's old chess game from when I was a kid. Haven't played it in many years, but I'll definitely be keeping this set forever. :)
