This elegant chess game was set up in my Tbilisi hotel for anyone to play.

On the streets of Denver, Colorado USA

I was walking through the room and the backlit chess set caught my eye. It seemed like the 2 sides were ready to do battle, sort of "Braveheart" style. There was a serious, somber energy there that piqued my imagination.

I took this shot in Washington Square Park where there were several people seated at tables engaged in games of Chess. There appears to be a game in progress here where one person is thinking about his next move while the other returns. Or maybe he's thinking about something having nothing to do with the game at hand. We'll never know but when street photography seems to tell a story we, as the viewers, can become deeply engaged.

Manhattan's Washington Square Park in Greenwich Village, which is actually a rectangle and not a square, is home to many avid chess players. Here are two deep in concentration contemplating the next moves.

At a time when so many young people are consumed by all manner of video games, it is refreshing to see these gentlemen outdoors among friends, real and not virtual, in a public park challenging their mental skills while enjoying the fresh air of a beautiful Autumn day.

Although it is not the most valuable piece, the queen is the most powerful piece in the game of chess.

Chess,

I took a photo of the chess game.

If you want to win a game of chess you need to attack ON THE SIDE to destabilize your opponent and win the game :).

Taken for the Macro Monday theme "Backlit".

This was taken of a small glass chess set. 3 squares on the chess board were about 3 inches across. The only light source was from behind the chess set.

HMM!

Hello amazing Flickr people!!

Today is a pink or purple day at Color My World Daily. And the theme ay Make Me Smile on Saturday is pawn.

Since I had a day off yesterday, and it was a very beautiful and sunny day I decide to do some gardening… My sons helped me, and we did very good. So, know our backyard is officially open for spring and summer. I’m a little bit nostalgic thinking about all the awesome parties with friends and family we had last year… I truly hope it will be possible to have people over this summer… We love garden parties in my family…On Monday they will announce a plan for the reopening of economy but I don’t think that garden parties are on the list yet…

And since I worked the whole day outside, I took my picture at the very last minute … There was a lot of concepts and ideas but at the end here is my choice. And as you can see, I have no idea how to play chess… And since I’m a hoarder I have a chess game in my garage, even if I don’t know how to play lol

Of course, I will try to catch up with all your awesome comments and photostreams during the week-end.

Thank you so much for all your lovely comments / favs/ general support / happy thoughts / positive vibes!! It is truly appreciated! I sincerely hope everyone is all right and you all have everything you need to survive this with a smile! Have a great day and see you soon!!

The queen is the only piece on the board during a chess game that represents a woman, and she is the most powerful piece of the game. In short, the queen is so powerful because its relative value is 9 which is higher than any other chess piece. It has the maximum mobility and combined power of rook and bishop. It can even checkmate a lone king with a king.

Facing the Enemy

The most famous chess scene in films is still Ingmar Bergman’s “The Seventh Seal” (1957). The story is set within the context of a world engulfed by the Black Death. The recently returned crusading knight (played by Max von Sydow) engages in a winner-take-all chess game with the Devil.

The Pale Horse is often used as a symbol of death or war. In the Book of Revelation which deals with the prophecy of the final Apocalypse, the last of the four horsemen rides on the pale horse: “And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.” (Revelation 6:8).

A third reference to the Pale Horse comes in my favourite Clint Eastwood western, “Pale Rider”. Once again, the imagery is taken from Revelation, and it is the story of a preacher who is on a mission for divine justice against a group of outlaws who have been terrorising a town. This preacher brings with him death and damnation and takes no prisoners. "Vengeance is mine saith the Lord."

It is probably the most famous chess game in Italy, although hardly anyone knows who wins it. Perhaps because the chessboard is important, on the central square of Marostica, in Veneto, and even more so the pedestrians, appearing in Renaissance costumes called to recall a chess game that, in the fifteenth century, resolved a combat that risked degenerating into war.

At the time (it was 1454) Marostica was an ally of Venice. Two knights, Rinaldo d'Angarano and Vieri da Vallonara, both fell in love with the beautiful Lionora, daughter of the governor of Marostica, and they challenged her to a duel. The governor, who did not want to antagonize either of them, decided that he would marry his daughter to the one who had won a game "to the noble game of chess" held with living pieces in the parade ground. The loser would become his own relative by marrying Lionora's younger sister, Oldrada.

In memory of this event, every two years in September in Marostica the living chess game is played in the splendid Piazza Castello. Not being able to reproduce the original moves of the two contenders, lost, we chose to refer to very classic chess, or two games known as the Immortal and the Evergreen.
