Theme of the Week: Bucket List
I'm going to be able to cross this one of the list in March!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And here's my fundraising pitch!
Hi Everyone!
Next March, I’m going to Bangalore India on a Women Build/Habitat for
Humanity volunteer trip. Along with 100 other volunteers from around
the globe, I’ll be working with Indian families to help build safe and
affordable homes. The project kicks off on March 8th, which is
International Women’s Day. We will be building in partnership with
rural and underprivileged Indian women who have formed microfinance
self-help groups so that they can save money to build better lives for
their families.
Most of you know that Women Build is a cause near and dear to my
heart. Over the past five years, I’ve been volunteering at Portland
Women Build alongside some truly amazing women. We have built four
homes and most importantly, have helped four families reach their goal
of owning a safe, affordable home. I’ll be traveling to India with
two other awesome Portland Women Build volunteers – Mel George and
Katie Hughes. And of course, I’ll be bringing my camera and I’m
really looking forward to documenting our journey and experiences.
Sounds fabulous, right? Here’s how you can help!
1) Donate online through my Habitat for Humanity Global Village webpage:
Heather's Women Build Trip Fund
I need to raise $1,950 for the trip fee, which covers my trip fees
like food and lodging, but also includes a donation toward the
IndiaBUILDS program. These donations will be paired will be paired
with the savings of women’s self-help groups to help some of India’s
poorest families gain better lives. And your donations are tax
deductible!
2) Donate toward my airfare fund at my paypal site
Airfare will be around $1,700 – I’m still on the lookout for a great
deal, but that’s a realistic figure.
At the risk of sounding like a bad infomercial, if you donate $50 or
more, I will send you an 8x10 print of your choice! Here’s a link to
some examples: prints for india
Please consider giving if you can. And if you can’t, all your good
thoughts, positive energy and fund-raising tips are also greatly
appreciated! (Or India travel tips!)
Take care,
Heather
Has it really been 100 days since I started Project 365? I'm getting better at taking my camera everywhere, but the best thing is that I look with that eye -- the engaged, visually observant one -- a much higher percentage of the time, whether or not I have my camera with me. And I like that a lot.
Party snacks, hand crafted by me. I have no idea how I managed to make one twice the size of the other.
This store, and a few others like, are beacons for those seeking out curries, chutneys, Hamburger Helper (!), basmati rice and other global treats. Right in the heart of 'international' It'aewon
Strolling down Getreidegasse in Old Town Salzburg, a pricey, if not touristy shopping lane that is well-visited and beloved. Traditionally, businesses use elegantly crafted wrought-iron guild signs to mark their location. Going just the opposite direction of the photo is the birthplace of Mozart, near which you can find tacky cheeseballs sounvenirs bearing his likeness.
Had such a super time on the Jersey Shore this past weekend visiting family and showing Valerie (and Maddie!) my childhood stomping grounds.
papa sneaking pictures of me- honestly the only way I get caught on film. The dreadies are slowly getting some length. I love them more now than I did when we started on this road two years ago. Not to get all cheeseball, but simply having them has shown me that I can really do anything I desire. I always said I could never get away with hair like this. What drivel.
The weather today was, again, horrible.
hot, sticky, and rainy. When is the nice May weather coming?
MAJOR CABIN FEVER. oivay.
My day consisted of math work, book reports, and the digestion of practically an entire taco cheeseball. thus, the reason this picture is le'suck. No makeup, Dads sweatshirt, sicknasy hair. I'm sorry. Better picture tomorrow, I promise.
Why is everyone in a horrible mood? I don't understand.
I can't wait till tomorrow!
As a groomsman, Vicky had a choice whether she wanted to party with the men or the women. She chose women because they were going dancing, and had promises of cheeseballs.
One of the bridemaids brought along a dildo hat. Very strange.

A Premium Appetizer set up for a 25th anniversary for a really great couple! Chips overflowing from our basket, next to a large bowl of salsa, crackers, cheeseball and a 3-tier stand of sliced cheeses and summer sausage. Fruit and Chocolate Covered Strawberries are peeking in from the right side of the screen.
Me-made outfit
Shirt from pattern in the Alabama Stitch Book, with self-drafted sleeves added. I stenciled with gold/lavender fabric paint, which turned out looking just gold. I tried the hand-applique but bagged that plan after struggling through a few leaves. Maybe someday!
Skirt self-drafted following instructions in the book Sew What! Skirts
my mom took this photo. i tried to "save" it with some processing. i like how it turned out. even though the focus is off and it's still fairly blurry in spots.
she had them both standing there nice and pretty for the photo. he started to walk off (still looking at the camera, purposely being a cheeseball) and she decided to plop down (watching him walk off like "where do you think you're going?!").
get to see them tomorrow. :)
