I captured this image during a recent visit to an area of the Cheat River known as "The Narrows", which runs alongside Route 72 in Preston County, West Virginia.
The Cheat river is one of the largest uncontrolled watersheds in the eastern US. With over 912 sq miles of drainage, it is a big river system by the time it gets to the Narrows. The Cheat Narrows gets it's name from the river being funneled through a narrow break in the river canyon. Because of this and the lower gradient then the Cheat Canyon this section can be rafted at a wide range of water levels. Most of the rapids in this section are formed by the river tumbling over big rock bars creating lots of friendly waves.
The Cheat Narrows is also a great section to ride when the Canyon is over 6 Ft, very large waves and very fast currents. Starting in flatwater and ending in flatwater the Narrows is around 6 miles long depending on starting point. Fresh clean mountain water makes this section a wonderful place to be in the summertime, lots of great swimming spots.The perfect trip for the beginner rafter and young kids, as well as those who just want a fun easy time on some mild whitewater.

The theme for this weeks self portrait was "born this way". I had no time to properly complete it. I call it "cheat" because a coworker took the photo. It was a test shot for some photos I'm doing this week and I wanted to make sure the lighting would work. So I set the lights, instructed on what to do, set the camera settings and edited the final. Therefore I'm counting it as my weekly self portrait.

One of the advantages of the society chartering this ride was the photo run by's. We got off the train scrambled down the rocks by the river and the train backed out of sight. It then rode by while we took our pictures and video and then backed up to get us.
I'm cheating a bit here. I've been wanting to take a subway SP for a while but it's been difficult to set up on a normal day because the train is too crowded. The only reason the train is this empty is because this was early evening on an overcast Sunday, and it's the G. However, this is a pretty good approximation of my commuter face. Everyone on the train always has this blase, focused-on-nothing-in-particular look on the train.
