It is quite obvious that I slid all sliders to the max for this image. It started out as an HDR but I didn't like what it did to the image so I dialed down the HDR effect and completely flipped the colors. I was going for a dreamy, surreal look.

The title is from a favorite song from my youth ... I realize that this really dates me :-) I chose this title because, to my delight, when I first loaded up this image, I discovered that the sailboat on the right in the foreground carries the name "Dreamboat Annie!" That just tickled me to no end! I love surprises like that!

♫ ♥ Heart – Dreamboat Annie ♥ ♫

Heading out this morning into the sun

Riding on the diamond waves, little darlin' one

Warm wind caress her

Her lover it seems

Oh, Annie

Dreamboat Annie my little ship of dreams

Going down the city sidewalk alone in the crowd

No one knows the lonely one whose head's in the clouds

Sad faces painted over with those magazine smiles

Heading out to somewhere won't be back for a while

Happy Sliders Sunday!

Very busy with preparations for a graduation party / family reunion tomorrow. Tossing together a pasta chicken salad and a huge bucket of sand pudding (served in a sand bucket with a shovel)! So, I pulled this from my archives; it seemed appropriate for today.

Happy Fence Friday Everyone and Have a Great Weekend! :D

Sunset stroll

I looked up at the sky about ten minutes past five and thought that a fair amount of clouds was still lingering. I wasn’t sure if they would remain for another half hour and help create a beautiful sunset. I knew I didn’t have enough time to drive and reach the beach in time. So, instead I decided to try it at the park.

There were not a lot but some people who came out for an evening walk, and it was inevitable to see at least one of them in my composition. For that reason, I took at least an extra shot at the same exposure thinking that I was going to Photoshop them out by blending them.

But then, when I actually got to this shot, I completely changed my mind.

I couldn’t resist leaving him in as he was walking down the path while keeping a foot of distance from the borders. He became the man in my sunset stroll.

A favorite spot of mine in downtown San Jose, where the palm trees sit between the two towers of the high rise buildings. A great spot for catching airplanes landing at the nearby airport as well as some pretty colorful sunsets.

Morning light at Serón

[This is a series of photos that I took while backpacking Torres del Paine. I tried to take as many photos as possible, but it rained so much more than I had ever anticipated, so it was not possible. It was extremely windy, so a combination of both rain and wind made it difficult to shoot while actually hiking.]

The morning of Day 2 began with light sprinkles. But it eventually stopped at the almost reverent morning light that I have ever seen. What was slowly seeped through the cracks in the blanket of clouds that hovered over us eventually flooded across the snow capped mountains that dominated the north skyline of Serón.

Completely awestruck, I just stood there, not being able to take my eyes off of it.

Desecho Valley is immense. As the sun sets, the shadow of the mountains travels rapidly up the valley floor. For a short time, the horses followed the light, moving further and further away from our camp. More distant cows, goats and horses appeared as tiny specs moving here and there over the slopes, and sometimes disappearing into the background. This valley is a tricky space that stretches so far into the distance, it's difficult to know how far away, or how big anything actually is.

An afternoon walk wrapped in autumn light 🍁

Converted an image of passing storm clouds to B&W. I thought that B&W would make the storm clouds more omnious.

Used one of the storm cloud images and the BW_Sampler9 image from the bonus files.

Just a minimal mocha / orange slide for Sunday!

Happy Sliders Sunday!

For it being one of my first times shooting this late. I was able to get some pretty good photos. The experience was also very nice.

Not enough for a series, but feeling inspired by the formlessness of water and reflections.

Waterline 6625

Beautiful light; wonderful shapes that repeat in a pattern; brilliant drama in color. All conspire to created a visual piece that calls for closer study. A single frame. No layers added. It is as shot.

Minolta 35mm f/2.8 MC W.Rokker-HG - I had just taken a photo of light rains ending on the pier when, "Sorry son, I got to get my walk in."

I haven't done a bench shot in awhile ... so when I'm with the girls, I always try to grab a few for later! I had a lot of fun chauffeuring Rachel around San Diego and surrounding hamlets ... showing her what she could do, where she go, etc.

At sunset, our path put us near Carlsbad State Beach. We hopped up on the sea wall and enjoyed a gorgeous sunset ... and of course this bench shot! Loved the couple walking together, hand-in-hand and the fabulous sun flare! This looks much better in the lightbox!!

Happy Bench Monday!

DAY 5 - MORMON ROCKS AT SUNSET

Mormon Rocks at sunset

After enjoying another quiet morning at the camp in Mojave desert, I left for the city. However, I wasn’t returning to civilization right away. I had a bit of time, and my eyes were set on Mormon Rocks.

When I arrived at Mormon Rocks, it was still quite early. So, I drove around the area scouting a few spots. It was kind of a pain in the neck driving up and down both I-15 and the state highway getting on and off, but I eventually found some spots to catch the sunset as well as do astrophotography later on.

When the sun was dropping close to the mountain ridge line far west, I headed back out to one of the spots that I had scouted earlier. One of the cool things about Mormon Rocks is that there are so many different shapes and sizes of rock formations. They truly looked out of this world.

I loved the perfect timing that the rocks planted slanted glowed in soft light while the hills and mountains in the background all painted in vivid orange. All I had to do was just step in the frame.

Hope everyone is enjoying their post Christmas recovery. Now it's time to plan the New Year celebrations!!

Happy Thursday!

Beautiful sunrise at the beach. A soft, lovely pastel light ♥

♫ Violent Femmes – Blister in the Sun ♫

Even though this is the lake, doesn't that fiery sun make you feel hot? That you are "blistering in the sun?" With a heat dome hovering over the Plains and the Midwest, everyone will be sweltering in triple digit temperatures and extreme humidity this week.

The last time we had a heat wave like this, we were camping in Upper Peninsula, Michigan. It was nice & cool up there on Lake Superior. When we came home, we discovered that all of our poor fish had died! *Many Tears* The house was an oven and smelled awful. We had forgotten to turn the A/C on (it worked back then).

Speaking of A/C, this morning I broke down and called the A/C man. We really don't want to end up like our fish!

Happy "HOT" Soundtrack Monday and Keep Cool Everyone!

I slowly strolled around the lake counterclockwise and stopped wherever an interesting sight caught my eye. And this particular sight did just that.

The colorful sculpture shouted for my attention. The pines looked like clumps of moss on sticks. And the old water plants in the foreground.

But, it turned out that this was quite challenging as a huge rock sat right at the spot where I wanted to plant my tripod. And my 24mm prime lens wasn’t helping either. First I placed it right in front of the rock. But it became obvious rather quickly that even with the flip-out screen out and tilted up, it was tricky for me to view what I was composing.

It was one of the rare moments where I found myself contorting my entire body into a ball like an armadillo. I wished there would have been another way, but when I wanted the sculpture in the dead center of the frame along with the water plants and the reflections of them in the foreground while not being cropped.

Then, when it was all ready to go after spending a good 10 minutes constantly shifting the tripod and the camera, I came back up as if the armadillo unspooled itself up and sat down on the rock. I released a huge sigh of relief and stretched my back while watching the lake.

Once the clear reflections were set in as if things came into focus, I pressed the remote shutter release before another whiff of wind would disturb the reflections.

I’m no expert, but I’ve always felt that, despite the common element in rivers, seas and oceans, riverside evenings possess a distinct magic compared to those over oceans or seas.

For instance, when a sunset is framed over a riverside, it often stirs a localized sentiments bound to specific places and lingering memories. Conversely, oceanic horizons tend to evoke a pure, existential solitude, reflecting the internal landscape of the viewer rather than the physical world around them.

Perhaps it is a flawed theory, but it is an observation distilled from witnessing how deeply these views move people across all walks of life.

Yesterday’s sunset in Prague was pure magic — the sky looked like it was painted with fire and dreams. ✨

When the sun goes slowly down on the Lofoten you get that absolutely magical light. Only for a few minutes it looked so fantastic as on the photo! So you have to be fast, see it, find a parking spot near the road, jump out of the car, find position and shoot. I shot 5 frames…this is one of them.

I think this will hang on a wall in my house…I personally love it!

The only April Fool's trick being played here is the fact that it wasn't as warm as it looks!! The title is from a song sung by Cat Stevens: "a popular and well-known Christian hymn first published in 1931. It has words by English author Eleanor Farjeon and is set to a traditional Gaelic tune known as "Bunessan."

♫ Morning Has Broken – As Sung by Cat Stevens ♫

Morning has broken, like the first morning

Blackbird has spoken, like the first bird

Praise for the singing, praise for the morning

Praise for the springing fresh from the word

Sweet the rain's new fall, sunlit from heaven

Like the first dewfall, on the first grass

Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden

Sprung in completeness where his feet pass

Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning

Born of the one light, Eden saw play

Praise with elation, praise every morning

God's recreation of the new day
