DAY 5 - MORMON ROCKS AT SUNSET
Mormon Rocks at sunset
Then, the sun dropped behind Circle Mountain in the far distance. The lingering clouds helped the sky turn pink and orange. And the earth beneath it was slowly getting soaked in pink. The colors were subtle and yet very palpable.
The trail led the eye around this massive sandstone protruding up off the hillside towards the groupings of sandstones in the distance. It was mind boggling to think that such a vast field of unique and almost out of this world sandstone formations was pushed up unearthed by the massive force. Thanks to Andreas fault, we get to see this unique scene. And I get to enjoy this without a single soul around.
The sense of calmness slowly set in.
And it felt like everything just stopped all around me, as if frozen in time.

Mono Lake on Christmas Eve
The remaining light in the sky was fading fast. Even after I switched the 10-stop ND filter to 3-stop, it took 45 seconds to take the shot that I liked in terms of exposure.
Once the subtle pink of the Earth’s Shadow was completely gone, the world turned blue. And I thought that the saturation would fade soon, and it would leave the world with nothing but grey and black.
I don’t know why but the blue reminded me of 37° 2 le main (37.2°C in the morning), aka Betty Blue. Quite melancholic about the past.
The evening of solitude allowed me to look back at another year fading into a distant memory.
PROLOGUE: A 2 hours flight from Manila, Sarangani Peninsula lies in lower basin of Mindanao island.It has been a while since I did some serious landscape shoot. Finally a chance to be alone with the sea.
More than a year has past since I last visited this place, with more than 3,000 kms of coastal area facing the mighty Celebes sea. My last visit has enabled me to capture memorable landscapes that have given me awards and recognitions. Truly this revisit is special.
A 45 minutes travel from Gensan, I set out to capture hopefully, enduring and timeless landscapes.
Blessed with a golden light and mighty winds with crashing waves, it was a perfect scene.

"THREE KINGS"
Many versions of a mangrove tree silhouetting in a glorious sunset have been captured...this is my own version, with almost 2 minute exposure in fleeting light.
SEASCAPES #2 - WHEN TIME FLIES
Lacanau, Aquitaine, France
I took this photo on a day where the light was not good for some dramatic skies etc. To get this effect I used a long exposure time and moved the camera from left to the right horizontally. To get some stones on the exposure I first did not move the camera for a few seconds ... so they would be visible in the final image.

SEASCAPES #2 - DEVIL IN THE SKY
This photo is not a composite! I only dodged and burned the face a bit so it has more contrast. But it was there as you see it! I have no idea what the square in the devils mouth is...amazing clouds that day in Lacanau Ocean.

We tend to celebrate light in our pictures. Understanding how light interacts with the camera is paramount to the work we do. The temperature, intensity and source of light can wield different photography effect on the same subject or scene; add ISO, aperture and speed, the camera, the lens type, focal length and filters…the combination is varied ad multi-layered and if you know how to use them all, you will come to appreciate that all lights are useful, even those surrounded by a lot of darkness.
We are guided by three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, our longing to capture in print, that which is beautiful, the constant search for the one picture, and constant barrage of new equipment and style of photography. These passions, like great winds, have blown us across the globe in search of the one and we do understand the one we do look for might be this picture right here for someone else out there.

I walked over to the next spot and started composing a shot. It was getting dark fast, which means it was getting cold fast too.
The water was calm though, and I was able to capture the scene with clear reflections. Of course, they were not complete mirror like reflections. But the contrast against the rough texture of the rocks was quite pleasing.
Once I got a couple of shots that I wanted, I got up and started walking over to the next spot.

I celebrated my birthday today (the last year in my 4th Decade of Life)! I have to say it won't go down as the most memorable. Sometimes, events in life are unfolding, that birthdays tend to take a back seat, especially for us older folks!!
I didn't get a photo for the day so I pulled this from our bike ride trip on Sunday. That was such a wonderful day and I think I'd like to commemorate this day with something that has recently made me happy.
There’s something magical about sunsets—the way they paint the sky with hues of gold, crimson, and indigo, turning the ordinary into something extraordinary.
There's a sunrise and a sunset every single day, and they're absolutely free. Don't miss so many of them

When the museum architecture is as inspiring as this, what’s exhibited has to be grand. The Joslyn did not disappoint. Omaha, Nebraska. Sister is on 49/50 states before the 31st anniversary of her 29th birthday in June ‘26.
Took a quick snowshoeing trip overlooking Donner Lake last Friday. I shot these few snaps at the top up by the old train trestles. It was a perfect afternoon and I'm ready to hit the fresh mountain snow again after the next storm.
