Misty musings. As fog started to dissolve the sun's reflection on the water created an interesting scene. This in combination with the surreal surroundings forced my mind to visualize unearthly scenes. Charon's boat might have looked like this...

This image of two colleagues being ferried by our Inuvialuit assistant across freezing waters into the late-morning arctic sunrise evokes the crossing of the Styx toward the flames of Hades. Dolomite Lake, North-West Territories, Canada.
Xylan has been here for 14 Earth days. His sole purpose is to find the people responsible for declassifying Pluto as a planet and, well, change their minds. There are some really pissed off folks back home!

Charon-lit-Pluto: The image shows the dark side of Pluto surrounded by a bright ring of sunlight scattered by haze in its atmosphere. But for a dark crescent zone to the left, the terrain is faintly illuminated by sunlight reflected by Pluto’s moon Charon. Researchers on the New Horizons team were able to generate this image using 360 images that New Horizons captured as it looked back on Pluto’s southern hemisphere. A large portion of the southern hemisphere was in seasonal darkness similar to winters in the Arctic and Antarctica on Earth, and was otherwise not visible to New Horizons during its 2015 flyby encounter of Pluto.

Charon or Caron (gr: Χαρων; lat: Charon) was the ferryman of Hades whose function was to cross the Styx to the shadows who had to pay with a farthing their passage (this is why it was customary to put this coin in the mouth of the dead before the funeral). Moreover they were rowing and were scolding by Charon, which was only steer the boat.
He is often depicted as a very ugly, tyrannical old, irascible, bearded and dressed in rags.
It may be mentioned that this is not a very old character in Greek mythology. It does not seem known Homer but it was popular in the heyday of the Athenian theater.
If he was only carrying the shadows of mortal who received funeral rites as he had to carry as few living mortals who had ventured into these dark places.

My entry for the first round of the "Style it Up!" contest. Rules: create a build using only one colour!
I was highly inspired by Acheron by Mihai Marius Mihu, so credits to him for the aesthetics and general mood of the build.
The MOC was build in one night (deadlines, ffs), so it kinda rushed and simple, but I hope enjoy it anyway.
About Dante
Divine Comedy (Inferno canto III)
Dante and Virgilio meet Charon. The boatman that ship souls in and out of Hades.
He didn't want to ferry Dante and Virgilio who said to him the famous words:
"Caron, non ti crucciare:
vuolsi così colà dove si puote
ciò che si vuole, e più non dimandare".
Thanks to gwilmore for asking me to be more accurated.
In Greek mythology, Charon is the ferryman of Hades who carries souls of the newly deceased across the rivers Styx and Acheron that divided the world of the living from the world of the dead.

Yesterday the tire flew off my minibus, I cut the head off a pit viper and I was banned from a commercial flight by associating with a narco-trafficker. Today I am bushwhacking through the jungle in the remote trail-less backwaters of Guyana, waist deep in water and praying to make it through the rest of the day alive. What will tomorrow bring? God only knows. The adventure starts here- pbertner.wordpress.com/.
The Jawan (IMO: 9262895) (previously known as Corvus J, Maresk Westland, Dana Gothia, Charon J) is a livestock carrier registered and sailing under the flag of Panama. Her gross tonnage is 11,874 and her overall length (loa) is 134.06 m. Her container capacity is 630 TEU (reflecting her prior life as a container ship). She was built in 2003 by Detlef Hegemann Rolandwerft of Berne and is operated by Macronsult Schiffahrt GMBH.
I photographed the Jawan as she lay alongside her berth at Fremantle Port on 2 May 2023. Her last port of call was Haiphong in Vietnam.

This area has some big rocks in it, and I have always wondered where they cam from. The answer:
The Wichita Mountains are geologically very old. The granite, rhyolite, and gabbro that constitute much of the range were solidifying beneath the surface of the earth 525 million years ago. Then between 330 to 290 million years ago the region was uplifted to heights greater than at present.
Here's an amazing zoetrope that depicts Charon crossing the River Styx. If people start pulling the ropes in the right syncopation, the wheel spins faster and faster until a strobe appears, showing the animated skeleton doing rowing across the river. It's just amazing... the minds that come up with this stuff?!?! Maybe now you see why I get so inspired out here. #burningman
I suggested that Camembert should have some rest after a long journey, but instead she put up an awesome juggling show "just to stretch out a little"! Did I mention how amazing this girl is?

Vision Part I
I see a boat crossing
The river of time
The Styx flows into eternity
Part II
The Styx does not exist
Neither does eternity
Nothing is real
Part III
Reality is flowing
out of nothingness

Charon is the ferryman of the Underworld, responsible for transporting the souls of the dead across the rivers Styx and Acheron to the realm of Hades. He is often depicted as an old man with a long beard, sometimes described as a poor fisherman or a grumpy old man in rags, who rows the souls in his boat.
