Special education paraeducator, McGuire-Grigg is NEA’s Education Support Professional (ESP) of the year for 2016, which is NEA’s highest honor for ESPs.
“We get up every day and the work is tough and we sometimes don’t get the respect we deserve, but go to work with our students because it’s where we belong,” said McGuire-Grigg, who works at Terrace Middle School in Lakeport, CA. “We love to take care of our students.”
Doreen has been a paraeducator for 28 years in Lakeport Unified Schools. She is a fierce advocate for human rights and works hard to make sure all of Lakeport’s students’ needs are met. Last September, when the Valley Fire struck her community, McGuire-Grigg arranged to have bedding and cooking supplies, clothing and other necessities made available to school employees, neighbors, and others who had been impacted by the fire.
“When it is necessary to advocate for students and ESPs, Doreen is front and center steering the charge,” says California Teachers Association (CTA) President, Eric Heins.
In 2011, she became the first ESP member to be elected to a statewide CTA position representing 5,000 ESPs and 20,000 teachers from 16 counties.
“Professional organizations help provide us a pathway to professional development so that we can lead for our students at the local, state and even national level,” said Doreen. “We must get involved to guide and inform this important work.”
As ESP of the Year, McGuire-Grigg will represent NEA at national education conferences, media events, and other community occasions.

One part of the building "World of Volvo" is a museum - the Volvo history of cars, trucks and buses since the very first Volvo left the factory in Gothenburg in 1927. Another part is a big exhibition about the present and the future, with funny activities in connection with Volvo, to do for the whole family. There is also a restaurant and a café. Built: 2024. San Antonio children walked and biked to their local Community Garden to celebrate local, organic food as a Climate Change Solution.
Then, they busted two giant pinata hummers to say "it's time to break our addiction to Fossil Fuels!"
This action was one of 2,000 events that are happening in over 175 countries on September 24th. The day is being organized by 350.org in partnership with hundreds of organizations around the world.

Greetings,
A group of youths, several climate change officers, nearby communities and
some very naughty but active children came together on 9/10/10 (10/10/10 is
a holy day for most Solomon Islanders) to do a little cleaning up of the
Mataniko River bank. We rid the site of garbage and we also plan to sow
flowers purely inorder to beautify the area. In addition, given that the
area is quite vast and will require much effort, a later date is set to
launch a huge clean-up action activity there.
The attached pictures illustrate the small but energetic and lively
individuals. Please keep in mind that unfortunately most Solomon Islanders
are camera shy, so including everybody in the pictures was quite a
challenge...:))

Here's a picture I drew of Changed Daily from "The Secret Show", a cartoon I used to watch when I was a kid. I haven't seen it in a long time, but I have rather fond memories of it and decided to draw my favourite character.
I've always found Changed Daily an interesting character, with his constantly changing name and catchphrase "For reasons of security, my name is changed daily."
As I do with all my other drawings, this was initially drawn by hand in pencil and then outlined in black fineliner pen. After that I scanned it to my computer and coloured it in digitally.

Climate activists from 350 Mass and other local climate change groups held a protest at the Danversport Yacht Club where the North Shore Chamber of Commerce was holding its “Business Insight Breakfast: Energy Forum.” The breakfast focused on renewable energy and featured speaker from Enbridge and National Grid. According to protesters both Enbridge and National grid have failed to transition to clean energy and are greenwashing the public by refusing to make hard commitments to immediately transition off fossil fuels. Enbridge and National Grid continue to fund fossil fuel projects. Enbridge built a gas compressor in Weymouth, MA despite local concerns about safety of the surrounding community and constructed Line 3 in Minnesota through untouched wetlands and the treaty territories of Anishinaabe peoples and is currently under investigation for aquifer breaches while National Grid is constructing pipelines and replacing liquified natural gas vaporizers as well as investing billions in gas pipelines.
