Erica Chenoweth delivered the 2015 Josh Rosenthal Education Fund Lecture on “Why civil resistance works: Strategic alternatives to violence in the 21st century.” She made her remarks on Wednesday, September 10, 2015 in the Annenberg Auditorium at Joan and Sanford Weill Hall.
Chenoweth is an internationally recognized authority on political violence and its alternatives. Her pathbreaking research on the effectiveness of nonviolent resistance has earned her numerous distinctions for “proving Gandhi right.” Foreign Policy magazine ranked her among the Top 100 Global Thinkers of 2013. She also won the 2014 Karl Deutsch Award, given annually by the International Studies Association to the scholar under 40 who has made the most significant impact on the field of international politics or peace research.
This lecture was supported by the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy's Josh Rosenthal Education Fund. The Fund was created in memory of Josh Rosenthal, a 1979 U-M graduate who died at the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. The fund supports lectures, research, and student internships that encourage public discussion and greater understanding of changes in the world since 9/11.

Oggi le mie mani sembrano d'avorio
è l'inizio di una nuova era anche per me
Oggi è mattino e mi ha afferrato lucido
e se fossimo noi ad esser sbagliati
e se fossimo noi pazzi e malati
hai il coraggio o no?
Cose semplici e banali per riconcigliarmi
con gli anni sprecati
e dentro ci sei tu
grazie a tutti per davvero
siamo alla fine
e ho perso l'inizio
ma ho un senso in più.
Cose semplici e banali, Afterhours
A couple of years ago the CP changed the normal scene at Uni by taking the old unused "Pioneer 4" track and making a new connection from their flyover down to the BNSF Midway Sub. Now instead of trying to get on the BNSF St Paul Sub "Wrong Main" at Uni, they can get on the correct main down on the less busy BNSF Midway Sub. This greatly reduced CP's long delays while waiting to get on the BNSF at busy University JCT, but makes for a completely different scene at University with the long CP trains blocking the view, and being right on top of you....
Here's what the track used to look like.
Damian has been one of my best friends over the last twenty years. I have been endlessly frustrated that he has had girlfriends over the years, but that he had never met 'the one' that I knew he deserved. The changes that I have seen in him since he has met Lynne are too numerous to list. I am so pleased the wait is over, he didn't settle for second best and he has finally found his soul mate. Here Damian is saying good night to his new mother-in-law. One of the many exciting new changes in his life.

After fundraising more than $900 from spare change at Mary Jackson Elementary School, the student leadership team went shopping for toys to donate at Walmart on southeast 14th st. And with another $100 from Walmart, more than $1000 in toys were dropped off over the weekend at Blank Children's Hospital for children to enjoy throughout the Holiday Season.
My wife and I needed minor repair on one of our vehicles this morning. I paid in cash and received some coins as change. I thought I would do a mini photo shoot with the money.
The classic B&O CPL signals that used to protect "BD Tower" in Akron, Ohio are now a thing of the past. New Safetran signals have been erected and the classic signals have fallen.

When I traveled home for Labor Day weekend, I made a spur of the moment decision to go into a salon to dye and try a different hairstyle. Even with my hair, I had gotten into a rut and felt the only solution was spontaneity. I snapped a picture as soon as I arrived home and saw the entire final result in the mirror. While I still have not adjusted to the shorter hair, I like the challenge of seeing beauty in myself regardless of my outer appearance. And though I do spend majority of my time outside of the house, this selfie in addition to others prove I need to focus less on criticizing myself in the mirror. With the extra weight off of my shoulders as well as with the mentioned wake-up call, there is more time for other, crucial parts of my identity: daughter, friend, nurse and so forth.
Change of plans. Some learning comes with new tools, this was staring me in the face the entire time, but only now, when I’m doing my roughing copes, that I realized I cannot proceed as before, which was run the chinstays long, fit dropouts etc, then cope them to an accurate length. The style was to leave just enough material so that the B.B. taps skim off the tops and create threads, no grinding. Well, can’t do that here, but a trick that’s super smart, I learned from the net, years ago, never applied it, but liked it, specifically from Curt Goodrich, make them about a mm short, it’s a good trick because you can see a ring of filler, finish everything professional like, ie, clean, no finger cutting burrs etc.
If, I Modified the fixture, pretty simple really, I could sorta still leave them long. In this case, Nestor is adapting, you can teach old dogs new tricks, I think!
Funnily enough, In this case, I can have both, business in the front, and party in the back, due to the design of the Pacenti B.B.
Pictures tell the story, will I ever get away from the mullet? Yes, I was mulletted, and I fought for it sadly!:) Never said I was Smart, determined yes.
On January 20th 2009 our Country will have it's first minority President. Certainly a historical change, but more importantly it will change the whole dynamics of our top government and we the people. Barrack will bring fidelity and continuity. People will get involved once again not unlike the J.F.K. days. The 44th president of the United States has brought immediate change, we can only hope he can bring the changes needed.

This is one of the popular performances in which the actor constantly changes his face image in front of the audience with a flip of a second.
