Change comes slowly to the leaves in Monte Sano State Park. The ones that just turn brown have been falling for a while now. And the yellows have started to come out. But looking at the big picture of the mountain — from my front porch — it looks like the peak will be soon. (Bear in mind, that’s a guess from a guy that’s only seeing his second Fall here.) It finally rained a little today after 2 weeks of cloudless skies.

And it isn't Fall yet.

The hawthorne leaves look so pretty as they begin to change into their autumn dress.

York is a seaside community that has experienced two hundred year #storms in succession in 2006 and 2007. These intense rainstorms flooded their business district, washed out roads and bridges and flooded people's homes. They're not waiting to prepare: they're starting to do adaptation projects for sea level rise and taking steps as a town to reduce carbon use.

whoops, here it is.

Aloha - below is the text we had on our leaflet. Attached is a copy of the map that was on the leaflet, as well as another shot of us at the Blaisdell.

Scientists agree reducing carbon emissions will help the planet from reaching the tipping point. They also agree the proposed Keystone XL Pipeline to transport tar sands fuel will mean game over for climate.

Tar sands fuel is some of the dirtiest on the planet. During production tar sands oil emits 3-5 times more CO2 than conventional oil. The pipeline offers all risk and no reward, except to a fewwho stand to make a killing.

This fall the President will make the final decision about the fate of this dirty, dangerous pipeline. Tell Pres. Obama to reject Keystone XL! Go to 350.org/en/stop-keystone-xl to sign the petition and find out more about what you can do to stop climate change!

Thank you again.

A Blessing in Gratitude

Thank you for taking action.

On behalf of all of us -

All that is human

And more-than-human

All creatures that roam and fly

and swim and swarm and

crawl and burrow and wander.

All plants and rocks and trees.

May you have the blessing of the soil and the sky

of the oceans and hills

of the rivers and the valleys

Of all the elements

Of all life

All life everywhere

May you be blessed

In your standing and in your sitting

In your journeys and in your arriving

May you feel the strength

Of the hands that you hold

and that hold you.

May you feel the love of each of

the millions of souls that are with you in spirit though we are not there in

body.

May you know you were born

for this moment.

May you return home in safety and in joy.

(p.s. I just made a donation)

The changing times are apparent below the cab window of this Santa Fe Warbonnet leading an eastbound intermodal train past the Metra station in Riverside, Illinois. The unit may wear Santa Fe colors and markings but the BNSF initials signal a new era. (Scanned from a slide)

Hansens flødeis (Hansen ice-cream) changed the name of the ice 'Eskimo' to 'O'Payo'. Same ice, new name.

The ice cream was called 'Eskimo' since 1922 - not only by Hansens but several producers had an Eskimo ice.

The danish people called the inhabitants of Greenland for 'Eskimoes', but the word 'Eskimo' means something like "raw meat eater".

To day it's not political correct to use the name 'Eskimo', so the company changed the name - to the name of the chocolate they use.

And other companies do the same now.

I wanted to do something original for this theme, so I decided to go the fortune cookie route. If it's already been done before, don't tell me because I haven't seen it and I'm feeling like I did something creative :)

Known for his masterful audible play calling, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning #18 changes the play as rain falls during the the third quarter of their NFL football game against the San Diego Chargers Sunday, Nov. 11, 2007 in San Diego. The Chargers won 23-21.

Two of the NFL’s most successful franchises in the past four years met when the defending Super Bowl Champion Indianapolis Colts made their first visit to San Diego since 1999 to take on the Chargers on NBC’s Sunday Night Football.

The Chargers lead the all-time series over the Colts, 13-9, and the teams split the last two meetings, both in Indianapolis. The Colts won 34-31 in overtime in 2004 and the Chargers returned the favor, winning 26-17 in 2005 to end Indianapolis’ 13-0 start.

Nothing endures but change.

Hummingbird Community, an aspiring ecovillage in Mora, New Mexico had a

garden work party as their effort to curb climate change. We harvested

jalapenos and green bell peppers in the garden and turned the soil for

winter bedding, and joked about how we were picking hot food to cool the

climate.
