Dowgate Hill EC4. The tallow chandlers were craftsmen who made candles from animal fat. The coat of arms above the door here was awarded to them by Edward IV in the 15th century and features (look closely) the guild's patron saint John the Baptist. The original hall was built on this site in 1476 but burned down in the Great Fire and was replaced by the current building in 1672.
