A Soldier assigned to Headquarters Headquarters Company, 6th Battalion, 1st Battalion Training Group (Airborne), United States Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School free falls into St. Mere Drop Zone on Sept. 18, 2014, as part of the 6th Battalion Command Sergeant Major Challenge. The CSM Challenge was an endurance race. Teams had to navigate approximately 20-miles of terrain and negotiate obstacles along the route, such as a rope bridge, open swim with equipment in tow, a boat paddle, a boat carry, downed pilot scenario and a weapons range. The event provided a friendly competition while building unit cohesion and boost esprit de corps.

I was very lucky to get this old yellow version of the classic Intex K1 kayak. I started to like it so much I would not change to the newer type.
Compared to new version this kayak is lightweight and small package so I can carry it easily anywhere. It has more chambers so don't worry about the stretching of the top middle part on the sun.
Even the soft old vinyl the kayak is easy to float on and given the construction it is incredibly stable compared to the old K2 from the same time.
I chose an Australian gum tree pod as my found object. It is set with blind rivets and held in place by tension and some stitches that I pulled up in metal.

This photo is #5 (Connie) in my 100 strangers project. Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at the 100 Strangers Flickr Group page
I was dropping my wife off at the local golfing finale when I saw Connie in a bright green and yellow outfit. I had to get her photo. After telling Connie about the 100 Stranger Project she immediately agreed. Connie said she was dressed up because the theme for the womens' golf was Mardi Gras. I hope she wins for the best custom. Connie has golfed for about 15 years and was very enthusiactic about the event. I took several photos but could not decide on a full body or the half body shot. I choose the half body shoto to show off the beautifull color outfit. I wished her a good game and went on my way. Thanks for helping me out in my challenge Connie.
I took Connie's photo in front of some Lilac bushes as the Sun was popping out every so often. Unfornatelty when I used the flash there were lots of reflections from her custom glasses. I hope my edits (remove light spots) are OK for this challenge?

The Vancouver Modern Quilt Guild participated in the Robert Kaufman Kona Charm Challenge. We got the dark colourway. When describing what I was intending to do - I mean doesn't everyone take a charm square, cut it into 6 pieces and then sew them back together? One of my guild colleagues proceeded to tell me that "There's medication for that you know", which I just howled at, and so it became the name of this quilt.
The quilting is not yet finished, but I'm still hoping to have it done before we leave on vacation - very simple zigzags, so if I get a chance, shouldn't take too long to do. Finished quilt will be ~50"x60"
It's a beautiful day in this neighborhood,
A beautiful day for a neighbor.
Would you be mine?
Could you be mine?...
We moved a few times as our family grew, but the first real memories I have are in the house where I grew up until I was a senior in high school. I was lucky enough to live in a neighborhood heavily populated by kids close in age… lots of girls to play Barbie with and have PJ parties, and a few boys too!! ….I grew up on Margo Ann Lane (A) in Woodson Terrace, Missouri….(My phone number was Harrison 8-3565… (back in those days the phone numbers all started with a name)… Margo Ann formed a circle with Lilly Jean so it was a relatively traffic free neighborhood, which made it great for bike riding and skateboarding.. with just the right hills and cracks in the sidewalks. All of the homes were very modest and quite small, though most of the families had 3 or 4 kids. Hard to believe we managed with 6 people and only one bathroom!! Back in those days (as far as we knew) only the “rich folk” had more than one bathroom ! .. We had window air conditioner units, too, not central air, so generally just a central room in the house was cool, and on those really hot summer nights sometimes we would all gather in the living room and sleep on the floor where it was cool. If the air conditioner wasn’t on, some nights we would leave the windows and doors open for the fresh air… you could do that back then and no one thought a thing about it. In those days, all of the neighbors knew one another and watched out for each other. The grade school, Kratz (K) Elementary, was just a hop, skip and jump (over the creek (L)) from our house. Across from the grade school was a small food shop (M) that was a “penny candy haven”.... and later on next to the food shop the neighborhood malt shop (N) opened up… it was just the right time in our lives for a place to “hang with friends”.
Take a subject as far out of context as possible.

this would have to be one of the hardest challenges that I have done so far - I tried to capture smoke images inside and outside, with lamp light and sunlight, with natural light and coloured light - here are the best (not at all that great) of my results (not counting the really bad failures)
