Compositionally Challenged Week 42 - Bokeh

Happy Bokeh Wednesday! : )

CC Rainbow Game- Purple

For years, I've been asked to do pictures of me as comic book women, so I've done some online research to find out who they are and what they look like. Then I put together costumes to get their look as close as I can. Usually, it takes a good bit of photo editing. Making their look and building sets or finding good locations is a fun process. Thanks to the people who have suggested who they would like me to appear as. I have more in the works. If you have any suggestions, please drop me a line.

Compositionally Challenged Week 20 - Active Space

After looking in my bird books, I think this is a Swainson's Hawk.

We watched the hawk for several minutes while it moved from one branch to another before it took flight carrying a piece of bark.

Some weeks ago I rendted myself a perfect little spot on It All Starts With A Smile

8 different houses, fully decorated but all perfect in their own league.

Not only a perfect place to live but also a great place to visit, to hang out with friends and take pictures.

For more information visit It All Starts With A Smile website

For me, being a Second Life blogger I need to challange myself all the time.

I made a new challenge for myself called #Smile☺Challenge.

The challenge calls for "My Favourite Things". I have lots of favourite things to choose from but visiting the Sumatran Tigers at Australia Zoo is really a great pleasure.

"Australia Zoo is home to some of the last surviving Indonesian species of big cat – the Sumatran tiger!

Found throughout the forests and grasslands of Sumatra, these big cats are the smallest of all remaining tiger species. They are an impressive and powerful hunter with the ability to jump up to 5 metres (16 feet) in length! Using their stealthy stalking abilities, they will successfully hunt deer, pigs, jungle fowl and fish. Sumatran tigers have a range of vocalisations and communication tools. Their roar can be heard up to 3 kilometres (1.8 miles) away. Crikey! Like all tiger species, their beautiful orange and black striped coat is unique to every individual, just like our fingerprints!

Sumatran tigers are a critically endangered species. There are fewer than 350 left in the wild. These beautiful animals are victim to the illegal wildlife pet trade, illegal poaching for traditional medicine, illegal hunting for pelts and meat, as well as experiencing rapid deforestation and habitat loss. They are a species that is facing certain extinction without our protection."

A few weeks back our camera club had an outing to Canary Wharf in east London to photograph a 'winter lights' display, a selection of light displays scattered around Canary Wharf (some of them very good) that got underway once it got dark.

The meet up was at 5:30 pm but I decided to make my way there beforehand and so arrived in the early afternoon for what I hoped would be some long exposure photography. That didn't really turn out too well to be honest but I am forever the architectural enthusiast and so I set about shooting some of the architecture around the estate with a wide angle lens.

One of the compositions I saw in my mind's eye almost immediately was this one with all the vertical shapes in the frame. And for once, in a winter that has been as dull and gloomy as I can remember here in the UK, for once it was sunny and gloriously bright. The whole world seems lit up when the sun shines, our moods become more open and people linger in sunny spaces where otherwise they would slink back to their offices and places of work. It was just lovely to be out with a camera.

This was not a long exposure as you can probably see but the water was still and the reflections on it were clear. It's March as of tomorrow and I'm really starting to imagine we'll soon be getting more of this kind of weather... please!

HEHEHEHEH - always good to see where we started and where we are now. 10 years ago, and this isn't what I looked like when I started here in SL that's even a bigger difference.

Day 4 of 7 of the black and white food photo challenge. I found this huge mortar and pestle on clearance at Costco earlier this year. I have to admit I haven't used it much but am ready to start spicing things up. Anyone have one? What do you use it for mostly?

Wakering Photography Group Rust Challenge.

These items were at the Battlesbridge Antiques and Reclamation Centre.

These garden Ornamental Obelisk are also made on site by the company (anyoldfrenchiron.com) I was quite impressed with this one.

People don't notice whether it's winter or summer when they're happy.

for Saturday Self-Challenge theme seasonal.

Sometimes it can be a challenge to choose the proper tool. Will it be metric or SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers, which would be the imperial measurement system)? Does the situation require a deep well (tall), or the shorter, shallow socket? What type socket: 8 point for square heads or 12 point for hex heads? Maybe a 6 point, to minimize the chance of rounding off a rusty hex head? Then consider the driver, a ratchet or perhaps a breaker bar for more leverage? Will the drive system be 1/4 inch for small fine work or 3/8 inch, 1/2 inch: or maybe 3/4 or 1 inch drive for heavy equipment? Do I need an extension to get into a tight obscure spot?

This picture only shows my 3/8 inch and 1/2 inch drive sockets The 3/4 inch and 1/4 inch drive sets are in their own steel boxes.

I have SO many paintbrushes but it seems like I only use a few, and when we are painting, I usually complain that if I had had the right brush, my work might have been LOTS better! LOL!

Compositionally Challenged Week 18 Texture

Wanted to show the wonderful crisp and soft textures at the same time... a lye roll isn‘t common in many parts of the world, but you might know it, because the dough and process is the same as with Pretzels.

Shot with a Friedrich "S-Coronar 75 mm F 1.9" lens on a Canon EOS R5.

It's mainly very expensive clothes for people who spend summer holidays on boats. With summer over, I don't think there will be many customers. There was only one boat left in the harbour after I saw the last three sailboats leave. The canal will now be closed until next summer.

Peace is the marriage of the people and the planet, with all attendant vows. - Anonymous

Peace comes from being able to contribute the best that we have, and all that we are, toward creating a world that supports everyone. But it is also securing the space for others to contribute the best that they have and all that they are. - Hafsat Abiola

In some ways, the challenges are even more daunting than they were at the peak of the cold war. Not only do we continue to face grave nuclear threats, but those threats are being compounded by new weapons developments, new violence within States and new challenges to the rule of law. -

There is no time left for anything but to make peacework a dimension of our every waking activity. - Elise Boulding
