The effect you see here (..yes, the "strange" colors and the grain) via 2 additional layers, one a "normal" b/w layer made with the GIMP channel mixer, anotther b/w layer made with the new "c2g" GEGL operation and 50percent transparency.

[All these pictures have been taken at the "Chainsaw Carving - Europan Open 2009" event at the little village "Steinbeck" near Bispingen in Norhtern Germany.

Little village, but this is quite an event with a whole lot of international chainsaw carving artists from all over the world.

This chainsaw wood carving is of the only real, legitimate weather predicting groundhog...Sun Prairie's own Jimmy the Groundhog. Check the stats if you don't believe me. Jimmy's rate of accuracy far exceeds that of the wannabe out in Pennsylvania. This carving is on display in Cannery Square in Downtown Sun Prairie.
