Note to self: Before embarking on that lucrative lumberjack career, get a bigger chainsaw than a 16" electric and a more helpful dog than a power-lounging Golden.
One of the most striking Kinect exclusive titles we saw at E3 this year was Sega's Rise of Nightmares. Featuring a ghoulish love of blood and gore, the game's initial trailer drew some mixed reactions from our staff. Still, the Kinect's motion control technology seems well-suited to handle a quasi-rail-shooter, which Rise of Nightmares looks to be. At this point it's hard to determine how much movement control any of the new Kinect titles will have, as most seem to operate on linear pathways. In Rise of Nightmares, when you're not using an imaginary knife to fight off the undead, or using a pretend chainsaw to plow through them, will the Kinect be able to detect your movements when you want to just flee your enemies? Hopefully you'll not only be able to enjoy the frights and fights of rail shooter icons like The House of the Dead, but the freedom to move we've come to associate with more open horror games like Resident Evil or Silent Hill .

Soldiers of the 105th Engineer Battalion complete chainsaw, sandbag, road construction and vehicle recovery training at a North Carolina Department of Public Safety campus in Durham, North Carolina, March 9, 2015. The North Carolina Department of Transportation shared their expertise in the best and safest techniques for towing abandoned or damaged cars in case of natural or manmade disaster with the Guard engineers. “We want to insure folks do not get stranded and get them off the roads and home safe,” said Ben Griffin, a NCDOT incident management engineer. The training also prepares Soldiers for Operation Vigilant Guard, an exercise testing National Guard response to domestic emergencies. Shipwrights and apprentices use chainsaws and adzes to shape Edna Lockwood's garboard log, which will be the bottommost part of her hull.
Another of Ron Gillies' chainsaw sculptures, seen at the Errol Gala on 27/6/09.
More of these artworks can be seen during a very worthwhile visit to the Cairn O'Mohr Winery, just minutes off the A90 between Perth and Dundee.
